Tortington · 03/05/2005 19:05

if a sailor sails and a soldier fights whats a fighting sailor called?

Twiglett · 03/05/2005 19:05

a marine?

Tortington · 03/05/2005 19:05

awww twig, i hear you

Tortington · 03/05/2005 19:06

marines are in the ...marines so whats the navy then?

SoupDragon · 03/05/2005 19:07

Aren't the marines a subset of the navy?

SoupDragon · 03/05/2005 19:07

Or the navy is a dark shade of blue?

Twiglett · 03/05/2005 19:07

all the nice girls...love a sailor

dum de dum dee dum dee dum

emmatmg · 03/05/2005 19:08

corrr, soupy.

You're like, really clever, ain't ya?

I've got another question but it's so baffling I can't even think of how to explain it. I am a dimwit!

Tortington · 03/05/2005 19:10

are the marines like amphibian soldiers they fight on land or sea - they're not right fussy. nut the navy will only fight with big guns on big ships and shall never set foot ashore ( cept for a happymeal)

like the air force will only go in the air but are there some peole of the military persuation who will go in the air land and sea?

Twiglett · 03/05/2005 19:10

try using the words

'thingamajig'
'whatchamacallit'
and
'whosit'

that might help

SoupDragon · 03/05/2005 19:14

Here you go, Custy

emmatmg · 03/05/2005 19:14

ok, when you say it all about the weight of the water keeping the ship up right what if the ship was docking or somehing and the sea bed was un-even underneath it (derrrr wouldn't be above it now would it!!) so theres more water on one side then ther is the other.

How would that work as the water weight wouldn't be even, would it?

Ok I realise it would have to be a really big ship, a very uneven sea bed and not a great deal of water but would it fall over then?

SoupDragon · 03/05/2005 19:15

"The Royal Marines are the UK?s ?go anywhere? amphibious forces"

emmatmg · 03/05/2005 19:15

and to prove how dim I am I've left in several typos and missed out lots of puncuation just for your amusement.

SoupDragon · 03/05/2005 19:16

I suspect it kind of balances out because the ocean is huuuuuuuuuuuge. Same way as it's difficult to float in a bathtub because it's too small.

SoupDragon · 03/05/2005 19:17

And if the seabed is uneven above the ship, then you've probably tried to land one too many planes on it.

emmatmg · 03/05/2005 19:17

Hmmmmm, yes.

i wish i had a brain.

Twiglett · 03/05/2005 19:18

I have a question too

I'm not sure how to phrase it

oh hang on a tic, I'll give it a go

why on earth do you care?

SoupDragon · 03/05/2005 19:19

Because it's good to have an enquiring mind. It stops one becoming stagnant like, say a marmite flavoured stick.

Twiglett · 03/05/2005 19:20

snurk

Tortington · 03/05/2005 19:21

lol twig! it all came down to the sea being very big after all. i love it

why when people tip cows over can they not get back up?

happymerryberries · 03/05/2005 19:21

And the RAF also have a dedicated regiment of peolpe who's job it is to defent air bases and the air craft, called the RAF regiment....AKA Rock Apes to the rest of the RAF.

The RAF also call navy personel, Fish Heads and the Army, Pongos. Anyone in the RAF who doesn't fly in a plane is called a Blunty....because they are not at the 'sharp end'. Oh the laughs we have!

Dh does look rather good in his uniform though!

Twiglett · 03/05/2005 19:23

stultified mind huh? have I? have I?

well here's some questions for that big ol' dragon head of yours

Why is it considered necessary to nail down the lid of a coffin?

Why isnt there a special name for the tops of your feet?

Why isn't there mouse flavoured cat food?

Why does eating curry make your nose run?

Why are they called stairs inside, but steps outside?

Why does mineral water that 'has trickled through mountains for centuries' have a 'use by' date?

SoupDragon · 03/05/2005 19:24

Oy! Are you calling my big brother a blunty??
