Apart from pat self on back?

I am thinking of retraining but no idea about jobs. Those are the things I'm considering studying - what REAL ACTUAL JOBS might I get with a postgrad MA/PHD in them?

I mean ones that pay money. Any money. But must be money.

Thanks dearies.

Hmm. Trying to think who R & M might be.

Ah. Yes. Right Dept, right funder, wrong prize! It's not on that page any more - scout about earlier articles and you'll find it, if you're so minded.

Threadworm · 15/04/2009 22:20

'i make decisions based on the current situation rather than possible future outcomes'

That really is a rubbish question isn't it. You get what you (don't) pay for.

Might give it a go tomorrow if it takes >5 minutes.

Swedes · 15/04/2009 22:20

Habbs - it was two profs. I found myself thinking Oh please let her be married to the one with the lovely cleft chin.

Habbibu · 15/04/2009 22:21

NOOOOO!! NO! He's very nice but NOOOO>

Quattrocento · 15/04/2009 22:22

I am laughing hysterically at "Derrida's dicktum", although I think he would include the bins in his textual analysis.

Swedes · 15/04/2009 22:22

The other one looked a little, erm, strict and uptight.

I must say (after a glass of wine) that I've warmed to Lenin. Enormously. I must REALLY lovee her because I don't even mind that she blames capitalism for the tubes not running.

Habbibu · 15/04/2009 22:27

Yes, it's still on the agenda, but it's a bit stupidly complicated - the funding is (I think) quite specific, and region-based, blah blah.

It's a good idea, but I'm not convinced it's always working the way it should - not really my area, so I am talking bollocks a bit...#

Where are you on a clever thread? you are clever, I think. I think jargon/specialised language can be quite daunting - I do get lost with literary/Theory refs as it's just something I've barely touched, whereas I can pull linguistics jargon out of the bag quite happily.

Quattrocento · 15/04/2009 22:28

LOL at Swedes warming to Lenin. You'll be voting Labour next ...

Threadworm · 15/04/2009 22:30

Sheesh, I don't even get a placing on the cleverness thread.

Lenin is lovely. There are lots of newish posters making me very happy.

But isn't it so great that MN brings intelligent women of different political persuasions/backgrounds/educations together and lets them have good, interesting thoughtful discussions and like each other? It makes me really happy...

Can not comment on other prof as I know him only through hearsay.

policywonk · 15/04/2009 22:31

We do all know each other. You are gatecrashing.

Threadworm - For me your name would always be printed top of the Mumsnet cleverness league table.

God - I am taking things personally - I read PW's message as a response to my question to Swedes. It has been a long day.

So, yeah, Lenin, we're ... um ... a gang... and I'm ... like ... best mates with Pol.

Well, I know what she looks like. And what she sounds like.

It'd have to be "Working Class Socialist Lesbian Mums do it together" before you could really say your life's work was done.

policywonk · 15/04/2009 22:38

God, I hope no one took that seriously.

I can't join in with the literary theory/philosophy stuff at all.

You'd get sgb on board with that one.

onebatmother · 15/04/2009 22:43

We have met up altogethery (Threadie,Swedes, PW, Iorek, me) twice! Also one-to-one, some of us.

The more the merrier, I think, if yer interested. Seems to happen quarterly or thirdly, thereabouts.

I am ENTP - Ear Nose Throat Person.

It was much better, the paying test, Threadie. And actually gave you good guidance - to be your most relaxed self when responding. Still 4 or 5 that I really struggled with, but overall it was much easier.

Lenin, I am godmother to the daughter of one of my best friends (a lesbian).
