Some people need to come on here and take the piss out of others? Alot of it going on at the moment, often on other threads where others can't defend themselves.
Some people may see it all as a bit of a laugh, but is it really?? What is the motivation in sitting at a computer and making others feel bad??
Why the superiority complexes, clearly they are not justified, otherwise there would be no need to rip it out of others??
Harmless fun? Just remember what it feels like to be treated that way, in real life or on mumsnet.
And whilst I'm at it, being a regular poster does not give anybody the right to say what they want, and why should I be told to take anybody with a pinch of salt, or should know that by now??

Its okay to be abusive mumsnetters just make sure at the beginning of your post you remind people to take you with a pinch of salt.

But Blu even in lightheartedness why do some go out of their way to upset others?? I just don't get it, and don't understand why others feel the need to follow suit.

How do you know they're deliberately trying to upset s/one?

I don't know. I just don't look at the world as out to get me. My glass is half full.

lou33 · 05/04/2005 21:18

oi blu !

astonished · 05/04/2005 21:18

I don't see the need for more moderation, but just don't understand what is so funny about putting others down. I'm not really talking about debates as such, they can even in their heated moments be very enlightening and are purely people voicing their opinions, but sometimes cattiness is just not called for, neither is it particularly clever. i just don't understand the motivation, net or real life, and being on the net doesn't make it excusable, it just makes it more cowardly, would these people do it in real life?

OP posts:
snafu · 05/04/2005 21:19

I have honestly never got the impression that one poster was deliberately trying to upset another (except some of the more obvious trolls)

lou33 · 05/04/2005 21:19

beety

Blu · 05/04/2005 21:19

Oh No! Now Lou thinks I was deliberatly going out of my way to upset her

(I was - tee hee)

astonished · 05/04/2005 21:20

My glass is half full too, people aren't out to get me, as most of the time, i don't give them reason to. Net or real life, i like to know that I wouldn't intentionally upset anyone.

Again, whether or not s/one is deliberately setting out to upset s/one is subjective unless she/he's given clear proof of intent.

B/c this is all anonymous and online, tone can come across differently.

That's why the 'take it w/a pinch of salt' clause is a good one to adhere to.

Otherwise it's just not worth getting upset over.

lou33 · 05/04/2005 21:22

takes more than that. I was actually amazed that you think anyone listens to me.

Blu · 05/04/2005 21:29

Ooops, I have done Lou a serious injustice. I misquoted her. She said nothing about fingering her mod hat, she said "wanders by whistling nonchalently, with mod hat in hand". I apologise. No animals were harmed in the making of this film.

lou33 · 05/04/2005 21:31

but it's quite spooky blu, cos i was thinking about saying it!

Sorry about the shouty snurk, that'll teach me to type in the dark....

lou33 · 05/04/2005 21:36

and why exactly are you snurking?

LGJ · 05/04/2005 22:11

and why exactly are you snurking?

Because this whole daft thread has been running for three hours and not one wronged person has to my mind, stood up and agreed.

hunkermunker · 05/04/2005 22:17

The burning question has to be why are you typing in the dark NDP?

MissGalway · 05/04/2005 22:23

can I agree with astonished or will I be shot down too.

Davros · 05/04/2005 22:32

Expat, I think bollocks and piss are swearing but we tend to use them more like slang these days. To have a really good swear you now need to use words beginning with F and/or C.
Just scanned this thread as its far too upsetting to read properly as I am very sensitive. Is Lou's mod hat a pork pie one?

LGJ · 05/04/2005 22:37

Miss Galway

Agree by all means, you will not be shot down.

This thread just happens to be full of regulars who rip it out of each other at times.

My point is, that astonished was not prepared to give us chapter and verse and not one wronged person is on here agreeing with her.

Mud · 05/04/2005 22:43

Personally I get sick of sanctimonious crap spouted by some posters who seems to want empathy, sympathy, someone to stroke their ego and say there there you are truly a wonderful person / mother / partner when no-one here knows anybody else (just their online persona)

Sometimes I read it and want to shriek, sometimes I post back a bit snippily

But that's cos I'm a human being not a lovey-dovey everything is fabulous aren't we all nicey nicey nice now internet clone

Mud · 05/04/2005 22:44

was considering changing my name but that would be so anti-that posts sentiment I thought buggeration

I'm so brave, me

hunkermunker · 05/04/2005 22:45

Fantastic, Mud - can I just say that I think you're a wonderful person and I can really see your aura shining through in that post.

Mud · 05/04/2005 22:59
Mud · 05/04/2005 23:03

example of my snippiness
