What would you most like for Mothers' Day

We've been asked by The Independent to come up with the our version of the ten things mothers would most like for Mothers' Day (I'm obviously saying the new mumsnet book!) It's a consumer-type slot so the things we recommend have to be able to be bought, so feel free to say a lie-in if that's what you most want (I do) but please put something that can be bought too!!

Just a day off for me.......with maybe a full purse to be really frivilous and pamper myself, you know, Hair, make up, DEFINATLEY a massage to de-stress, clothes, shoes etc etc. Anything that's just for me and to come home with bags full of stuff for me and ME ONLY.
Mind you I would be happy with just the day off on it own.

EmmaTMG · 19/03/2003 20:40

OH NO! I've just thought of something much better......someone to come into our house and do all the DIY that DH needs to do so that he doesn't have to do it and then when he's not at work I can have my frivilous day off more often.
Sorry I know that not want you want to here but that my 100% perfect Mothers day/Birthday/ Xmas.

The expansion pack for the PC game Morrowind.

Mind you, bet that doesn't appear on the top ten

lou33 · 19/03/2003 21:06

A day at a health and beauty spa, a host of cleaners to give my house a real going over, Will Kemp and John Travolta!

bettys · 19/03/2003 21:07

A year's supply of fresh flowers

mands1 · 19/03/2003 21:25

One whole night's sleep with lie in where i don't have to hear the "commotion" downstaris that makes me get up.

Obviously I would like lie-ins, peaceful mealtimes and children that dont fight for 24 hrs, but for 'things that can be bought' I suggest:

Like Bettys a year or 6mnths supply of flowers (Bed of Roses who are on the web do this)

A massage, wrap, or facial.

Crabtree & evelyn La Source mineral bath soak
(its fantastic when you are feely achey, and makes the bathwater lovely and blue)

The White Company little trio of candles, "Rose and Honeysuckle", "Grapefruit and Lime", "Lavendar & Orange, really gorgeous.

The White Companys cashmere socks for feeling really decadent whilst lying horizontal on the sofa in the evenings.

Lots of tubs of M&S's chocolate crispy bites, anyone else addicted to these?!

Pretty photo frames for pictures of my babies.

Any pretty Accessorize handbag, the more sparkly the better.

Like SB34, a big box of surprise LUSH goodies or Body Shop smellies.

But I predict this years gift will be a mega bar of Cadburys Dairy Milk, just for me, which is always greatfully received and eaten ever so quickly!

I would like a really nice day with DH, DS & DD, where there are no arguements, no nonsense, just a lovely relaxing day with a picnic somewhere sunny - how about one of those posh picnic hampers with lobster and champagne (and laughing cow cheese for the kids!)

Flick · 20/03/2003 12:45

To be pregnant again - thats all!!

To be pregnant again - thats all!!

lucy123 · 20/03/2003 13:10

I would most like 2 hours to do nothing but sit arouynd drinking tea and reading the paper. aaah -I can picture it now.

scoobysnax · 20/03/2003 13:15

A really great new novel...or anything made by my daughter

Enid · 20/03/2003 13:26

JO MALONE LIME AND BASIL BATH OIL IF DP IS SECRETLY READING MY MUMSNET POSTS!!!!!

SueW · 20/03/2003 13:28

I could come up with ten treats for me that I would pin on a wish list and could be bought for me at any time (and I'd go along with the manicure/massage/10 sessions with a personal trainer ideas) but for Mothers' Day all I'd like is something that comes spontaneously from my 6yo daughter.

Luna · 20/03/2003 13:30

Enid - is the Jo Malone stuff good? I tried to get a sample as I never have time to go to the shop but they didn't send me one!

Flick · 20/03/2003 13:49

The Jo Malone stuff is lovely - great for gifts too as the packaging is very smart....
I like the Lime Blossom scent but the Amber and Lavender is also really good...

Ems · 20/03/2003 17:47

.. but it's SOOOOOO expensive!!

snickers · 20/03/2003 19:06

Jamie Oliver to come around and make me that breakfast in bed treat he's advertising for Sainsbury's... Lucky Jools! I bet she gets it too!

Lindy · 20/03/2003 19:08

A day completely on my own - in reality I will be visiting DH's family (because he is too pig-headed to do so) - whilst DH is at the rugby match in Dublin (see rugby thread) and driving 300 miles round trip for the privilege ...........mmmmmmmm can hardly wait.

grommit · 20/03/2003 19:28

A weekend away with dh to Rome or Florence - on our own....or just a day at a health spa would do nicely!

lilibet · 20/03/2003 19:33

A wish list for me would be

  1. A nice silky scarf with fringes
  2. Lovely smellies - candles and stuff
  3. A wonderful malt whiskey
  4. Manicure and pedicure
  5. A gift wrapped George Clooney to give afore mentioned pedicure
  6. Lots of yellow daffodils

Other than that, children that don't fight for a whole day, sunshine and for someone to cook me a nice lunch
