What would you most like for Mothers' Day

We've been asked by The Independent to come up with the our version of the ten things mothers would most like for Mothers' Day (I'm obviously saying the new mumsnet book!) It's a consumer-type slot so the things we recommend have to be able to be bought, so feel free to say a lie-in if that's what you most want (I do) but please put something that can be bought too!!

A magnolia tree

A pair of Art trainers
hmm...now I'm thinking....

A smeg fridge/freezer

One of those mobile phones with internet access

A surprise weekend in Prague - actually anywhere at all.

...back to reality...A bottle of very smelly bubblebath and a home made card.

Claireandrich · 21/03/2003 20:34

Oh Tigermoth - I'd love a SMEG fridge, but it has to be a pink one I think!!!

More realistically though, some Lush products, naughty chocoltes(!!!), champers.... (Hopefully DH will catch sight of some of this!)

From 11 month old DD - a home made card (probably done at nursery) and a big snuggle in bed before we get up. It's my very first Mother's Day so I am looking forward to it!

Tortington · 21/03/2003 20:45

OMG simon is simone?

susanmt · 21/03/2003 22:54

Just noticed the 'to be bought' stipulation.
Emmmm ..... a new bathroom, with trendy bath (from the Bath store and roman tiles from fired earth)
Or chocolate, I'm not fussy!

WideWebWitch · 22/03/2003 09:24

Oooh, things I'd like that you can buy:

  • A pair of Manolo Blahniks or similarly frivolous sexy shoes
  • An enormous American fridge or yes, a pink Smeg one
  • A complete set of Chanel No 5 body lotion, parfum etc
  • Agent Provocateur underwear
  • A haircut/colour by a fantastic hairdresser
  • A week in the Seychelles
  • A Lear jet
  • A fabulous house in Provence
  • A complete set of maternity wear from somewhere nice
  • A crate of Krug (for later consumption)
  • Fortnum and Mason super luxury hamper
  • A whopping great diamond ring, a rock
  • My own private cinema with access to every film ever made, failing that, a DVD box set of some great classic films - Room at the top, Casablanca, that type of thing
  • Huge box of chocolates and tissues to accompany the above

And things you can't:

  • My dad to be alive and well
  • World peace & an end to famine
sis · 23/03/2003 20:27

At the risk of everyone finding out that I am greddy, I'd like to add cashmere socks, gloves and scarf to my already extensive list. Yes, I know it has been lovely and warm today but my fingers and toes are sooooo cold as soon as the temp gets below 15 degrees centigrade!

zebra · 23/03/2003 21:10

DH to do all the nappies and bottom cleaning.

Ok, not my bottom. Well, maybe DH can pay attention to it in other ways, LOL.

IDismyname · 24/03/2003 11:04

My vote goes to Jo Malone - anything in French Lime Blosson flavour esp eau de toilette.
Their stuff is yummy.

cathncait · 24/03/2003 11:07

Lol Zebra!

Noisy · 24/03/2003 13:08
  1. An all expenses paid weekend away!
  2. A full body massage
  3. A new American Fridge/Freezer
  4. A new bathroom c/w whirlpool bath
  5. A garden makeover
  6. A case of champagne, box of chocolates and punnet of strawberries..
  7. Everything else that I can't remember right now!

And finally - something to stop me laughing so much - my work collegues think I've gone mad.
Some of the response's to this question have had me actually LOL in the officE !!! Excellent thread.

Noisy · 24/03/2003 13:11

Err, what is this Jo Malone stuf then? Any good?
Where do you get it?

(I don't get out much!)

bossykate · 24/03/2003 13:31

this thread prompted to go to jo malone today. am now the proud possessor of some honeysuckle & jasmine cologne. all the stuff is so covetable...

bossykate · 24/03/2003 13:48

noisy, list of jo malone stores here . watch out shopping there can seriously affect your wealth!

bells2 · 24/03/2003 14:05

Oh dear BK, you are on the slippery slope now - once you've experience all that rustly black paper there's no turning back. I have to confess to being an addict although its 154 for me.

bossykate · 24/03/2003 14:08

bells, i was going to tell them not to do all the gift wrap thing (trying to be greener) but just couldn't bring myself to do it...!

megg · 24/03/2003 14:17

I hate to disappoint you all but the lie-in isn't really going to happen - clocks go forward on Saturday night so whoever planned that should be slapped with a wet lettuce. I would like

  1. anything from Armani
  2. to be a size 12
  3. Chanel make-up collection
  4. bottle of Happy from Clinique
  5. to be able to have a long, candle-lit, relaxing soak in the bath without having dp deciding he wants the toilet or ds deciding he does after all want a bath and its happy birthday so he has to blow the candles out.

Not much chance of any of it so a big sloppy kiss from ds would make me very happy.

oxocube · 24/03/2003 16:25

A husband who remembers Mothers' Day would be a good start But back to reality (I wish), second the flowers for a year and the Chinese take-away on a Friday night (am getting hungry now), lots of bubble bath, good books, romantic weekend away with spending money I didn't have to worry about and the cash to surprise my mum by paying her a surprise visit and whisking her away for a well deserved treat!

BTW, I am getting confused now. WWW, you asked for maternity stuff. Have I missed a thread? Are you pregnant ? If so, huge congrats xxx

oxocube · 24/03/2003 16:26

That wink was supposed to be a smile! Never do get these things right!

Marina · 24/03/2003 19:21

Another vote for Jo Malone - amber and lavender does it for me. That is a BAD habit you've just developed there, Bossykate - and as Bells says, the packaging is part of the experience. (Robust boxes excellent for small children to keep treasures in). A bathtub somewhere in Northern Corsica (Calvi, St Florent) to pour the Jo Malone into would be good, for a week in June.

pluto · 24/03/2003 20:10

I'm expecting double the goodies - it's my birthday too!

bossykate · 24/03/2003 20:29

marina, the shop is near where i work, luckily my hours normally prevent me from going out at lunchtime... had to keep repeating to myself "we are on an economy drive, we are on an economy drive, we are on an economy drive, we are on an economy drive..." to prevent buying the lavender linen spray...

doormat · 24/03/2003 20:36

I would really like for Mothers Day.
1.To win the lottery the night before.(rollover jackpot of course)
2.Holiday anywhere in the world.
3.War in Iraq to end.
4.Last but not least Sean Bean on a hot date.

Reality:shrivelled bunch of daffs and me doing the sunday dinner for 3 hours.I would'nt want it any other way. Sean Bean might pursuade me otherwise though!!

tigermoth · 25/03/2003 07:10

Ever since I put a smeg fridge on my list of wantables, I have been having second thoughts.

Much as I'd love a smeg fridge in the kitchen, would I want one as a special gift? not very personal is it? The whole family would use it. It would seem to me a bit '50's housewife' to be given one. I've never been given a kitchen appliance as a gift, and would feel a bit wierd getting one.

But hypocrite as I am, I gave my son an ice cream maker for his birthday!

I'd also like to be given a camcorder for mothers day, or a garden chair, they are still arguably family things.

more pure 'me' things to add:

A new pair of sunglasses of my choice.

membership of a health club

a pair of impractical shoes

litt · 25/03/2003 14:45

i would like for mothers day

a lay in
a card fom my 3 year old and my 2 year old
a bunch of flowers
a none shounting at the children

kaz33 · 25/03/2003 15:03
