What would you most like for Mothers' Day

Carriel · 19/03/2003 20:30

We've been asked by The Independent to come up with the our version of the ten things mothers would most like for Mothers' Day (I'm obviously saying the new mumsnet book!) It's a consumer-type slot so the things we recommend have to be able to be bought, so feel free to say a lie-in if that's what you most want (I do) but please put something that can be bought too!!

So does that make me the only computer game addict here then?!

leese · 20/03/2003 19:42

A lie in, day shopping where I'd purchase some nice new boots and DM shoes (no smellies - bit boring). Also a nice new coat would be on the cards. Then an evening at the cinema, followed by a candlelit restaurant meal

Enid · 20/03/2003 19:53

GeorginaA, no, I'd also like the new Legend of Zelda - but who has the time these days?

susanmt · 20/03/2003 19:58

A day off!

sis · 20/03/2003 20:47

Putting aside the desire for world peace and happiness, an end to all famines and droughts etc, here is my wish list:

the new mumsnet books - of course

A weekend away at a luxury family friendly hotel (why are family friendly hotels the exception rather than the norm?) or at a Bruen Farm Cottages(they sound wonderful on the brochure)

a massage that leaves me totally 'unknotted' and relaxed

breakfast in bed with dh and ds without ds fidgeting and spilling everything!

some really good books and the time to read them in peace (other than on the tube)

a garden makeover

a chinese takeaway

lots of hugs and kisses from ds

Chiccadum · 20/03/2003 20:57

About 4 hours uninterrupted sleep would be bliss for me

SueW · 20/03/2003 21:00

snickers - in the Jamie Oliver ad itlooks like he's making breakfast in the middle of the night - I'm afraid anyone who did that for me would get it thrown back at them (it's light well before 7am now and that ad is distinctly lacking in light).

It does look good though - it just needs to be delivered at about 10am, lovingly prepared after returning to the house having taken baby out for a couple of hours so mum can have a lie-in.

Sleep

droopydrawers · 20/03/2003 22:16

A dishwasher (the electrical variety); the perfect haircut; highlights; a massage; some Verde smellies (not boring, just lovely); flowers as below; something frivolous but not uncomfortable - and still decent enough to answer the door to the postman in- to wear in bed; slippers to wear with frivolous bed gear - non sweaty type; a really good book; an accessorise gift voucher. I really enjoyed day dreaming, but will be satisfied with being given a lie in, and have dd brought in clutching the card she has "written", and no rows all day.

mieow · 20/03/2003 22:31

a new hubby

Chinchilla · 20/03/2003 23:20

Buffy series 2 on DVD
Angel Series 3 on video/DVD
The complete range of Christian Dior/Chanel/Calvin Klein Make-up
A 'Tesco Finest' Easter Egg
A bottle of Moet et Chandon champagne (and a straw)
A pair of knee length leather boots
A leather jacket
A day in a spa with loads of treatments
A weekend in Florence
A housekeeper
A nanny
A Jaguar sports car (or Mercedes would do)

Oh, I'm so materialistic. A nice day with no arguments and a lie-in would be nice. Then, lunch out and a walk in the sunshine...that's not too much to ask for is it? Personally I think that I am more likely to get the whole Dior make up range!

Luna · 21/03/2003 08:51

I''m with Cha and Chiccadum - a whole night's uninterrupted sleep would be fantastic. 4 hours would be great too.

breeze · 21/03/2003 08:55

I would like, Breakfast in bed after being woken up at a sensible time. Nice card from ds and a little gift that he picked out himself with dh, then out for a nice lunch, visit my mum and mil and have a cosy evening in. (well thats good then because that is what will probably happen, well maybe not the lay-in though)

pie · 21/03/2003 09:41

A Large Hamptoms Weekend Tote from Coach.
A pair of shoes from French Sole.
Unlimited purchasing power at Space NK, or just a pallette by Nars.
A New Season Louis Vuitton Murakami Blossom bag.
A day at the Elmis Day spa.
A hair makeover at the Aveda salon.
Anything by Ording and Reda.

I'm going here for the most expensive things I covet, as they will be the things I will certainly not end up with. Most likely I will end up with a bunch of daffs and a strange home made card

pie · 21/03/2003 09:42

Hey mumsnet...you chould put all the things and members name in a hat and then make a mum's dream come true

Tortington · 21/03/2003 10:15

BigBird · 21/03/2003 10:19

breeze · 21/03/2003 10:20

Custardo

Ems · 21/03/2003 10:24

Chinchilla, loved your bit with the champagne and straw!

Wendy1 · 21/03/2003 12:24

Having just bought my own mother's day presents (in order to avoid the usual disappointment of not receiving anything) I've gone for a box of Thorntons chocolates and a milk frothing whisk thingy (can't think what they're called) so that I can make delicious lattes at home whenever I fancy one.

as someone else said a weekend away with dh, when we can do what we feel like when we feel like it, as we used to do.....

mam · 21/03/2003 18:30

Custardo...Is simonhoward really not simonnehoward???

My wish list would be a years supply of time to eat properly instead of grabbing at the end of the day then maybe I wouldn't feel so run down, tired, fat, unfit!!!!!!!

expatkat · 21/03/2003 19:26

I want DH to promise one half or full day off work so we can get through admin.

expatkat · 21/03/2003 19:34

Oops--I only just noticed Carrie's 'things that can be bought' stipulation.

Satyajit Ray's 'Apu Trilogy' on DVD, which just came out. I know it won't make it to the top ten, but it's honestly what I want.
