I went to a party,

And remembered what you said.
You told me not to drink, Mum
So I had a sprite instead.

I felt proud of myself,
The way you said I would,
That I didn't drink and drive,
Though some friends said I should.

I made a healthy choice,
And your advice to me was right,
The party finally ended,
And the kids drove out of sight.

I got into my car,
Sure to get home in one piece,
I never knew what was coming, Mum
Something I expected least.

Now I'm lying on the pavement,
And I hear the policeman say,
The kid that caused this wreck was drunk,
Mum, his voice seems far away.

My own blood's all around me,
As I try hard not to cry.
I can hear the paramedic say,
This girl is going to die.

I'm sure the guy had no idea,
While he was flying high,
Because he chose to drink and drive,
Now I would have to die.

So why do people do it, Mum
Knowing that it ruins lives?
And now the pain is cutting me,
Like a hundred stabbing knives.

Someone should have taught him,
That it's wrong to drink and drive.
Maybe if his parents had,
I'd still be alive.

My breath is getting shorter, Mum
I'm getting really scared.
These are my final moments,
And I'm so unprepared.

I wish that you could hold me Mum,
As I lie here and die.
I wish that I could say, 'I love you, Mum!'
So I love you and good-bye.

At least that poem's just a witless pile of shit. SOme of the things that the less intelligent will insist on dumping in everyone else's inboxes are quite unpleasant, either scaremongering or vigilantism. I usually send snitty notes back to people who send me those.

LouieStrumpet · 19/11/2008 16:24

I saw this poem when I was at school - more than 15 years ago.

I understand the sentiment but surely they could get some new ideas.

Flamesparrow · 19/11/2008 16:31

with the "send it back to me if you truly love me" ones... does anyone seriously want the email twice? or an infinite amount of times by the time you keep sending it back again and again.

Blinglovin · 19/11/2008 18:12

Flame - yes. My Aunt!

Lemontart · 19/11/2008 18:17

putting aside the poetic critique for a minute, Manxmum (if you can face responding as your OP has had such an awful slating and I can?t help but think you probably posted it under genuinely well meant thoughts)
what is the aim of your petition? who is it for and what do you want to achieve by gaining this set number of signatures? (not being arsey or difficult, just wondering )

lol at blu

Mindless pap like that poem is an insult to my intelligence. It's total shite and anyone who sent me that in an email would get a swift reply.

But I have enjoyed part one of Poetry Appreciation with Twiglett.

And btw, that poem had me crying too.

theSuburbanDryad · 19/11/2008 18:27

That poem is just so shite moving.

I don't get crap like that in my inbox, not sure why. People have even stopped sending me it on Facebook. Do I get an award?
