I went to a party,

And remembered what you said.

So I had a sprite instead.

I felt proud of myself,
The way you said I would,
That I didn't drink and drive,
Though some friends said I should.

I made a healthy choice,
And your advice to me was right,
The party finally ended,
And the kids drove out of sight.

I got into my car,
Sure to get home in one piece,
I never knew what was coming, Mum
Something I expected least.

Now I'm lying on the pavement,
And I hear the policeman say,
The kid that caused this wreck was drunk,
Mum, his voice seems far away.

My own blood's all around me,
As I try hard not to cry.
I can hear the paramedic say,
This girl is going to die.

I'm sure the guy had no idea,
While he was flying high,
Because he chose to drink and drive,
Now I would have to die.

So why do people do it, Mum
Knowing that it ruins lives?
And now the pain is cutting me,
Like a hundred stabbing knives.

Someone should have taught him,
That it's wrong to drink and drive.
Maybe if his parents had,
I'd still be alive.

My breath is getting shorter, Mum
I'm getting really scared.
These are my final moments,
And I'm so unprepared.

I wish that you could hold me Mum,
As I lie here and die.
I wish that I could say, 'I love you, Mum!'
So I love you and good-bye.

I'm losing someone I love to a chronic illness

Manxmum - it's a bad poem. It's not someone who has lost someone to a drunk driver coming on MN and wanting support. Unless it's you in that position in which case you really needed to mention it in your OP or as you say post under bereavement.

Erm Manxmum in answer to your question yes I have lost someone to drink driving when I was 16 my uncle (and Godfather) was ran over by a drunk driver .

Posting this kind if sentimental sloppy fake shit is stupid and its probbaly written by some dimmer who has not ever been affected by DD.

Please tell me you don't believe all the crappy emails you get about ghosts geting you if you don't forward it onto a billion others ,or my personal favourite the woman who is murdered after filling up her ca and a madman snuck on the backseat of her car .

I once got shouted at on a train for complaining and making (admittedly bad) jokes when we were stuck for 30 minutes because of someone jumping in front of a train further down the line. The woman told me I was obviously insensitive and hadn't experienced someone I loved committing suicide.

Umm, actually, I have. Which made me feel I had even more right to complain - I know how it feels when a family member decides they'd rather leave than stay behind.

OP I'm sorry you've had a bad experience, but a poem like this is not going to change anything and really is just a cheap attempt to get people who feel strongly about this to cry!
