I went to a party,

And remembered what you said.
You told me not to drink, Mum
So I had a sprite instead.

I felt proud of myself,
The way you said I would,
That I didn't drink and drive,
Though some friends said I should.

I made a healthy choice,
And your advice to me was right,
The party finally ended,
And the kids drove out of sight.

I got into my car,
Sure to get home in one piece,
I never knew what was coming, Mum
Something I expected least.

Now I'm lying on the pavement,
And I hear the policeman say,
The kid that caused this wreck was drunk,
Mum, his voice seems far away.

My own blood's all around me,
As I try hard not to cry.
I can hear the paramedic say,
This girl is going to die.

I'm sure the guy had no idea,
While he was flying high,
Because he chose to drink and drive,
Now I would have to die.

So why do people do it, Mum
Knowing that it ruins lives?
And now the pain is cutting me,
Like a hundred stabbing knives.

Someone should have taught him,
That it's wrong to drink and drive.
Maybe if his parents had,
I'd still be alive.

My breath is getting shorter, Mum
I'm getting really scared.
These are my final moments,
And I'm so unprepared.

I wish that you could hold me Mum,
As I lie here and die.
I wish that I could say, 'I love you, Mum!'
So I love you and good-bye.

What are people signing??? A poem???

BoysAreLikeDogs · 18/11/2008 18:13

And what will happen to it after 5000 signatures?

Is there a camapign or summat going on?

PeppermintPatty · 18/11/2008 18:14

Is this one of those chain mail things?

mynameis · 18/11/2008 18:14

This is a very sad poem but surely must have reached 5000 signatures by now, i had it on email about 2 years ago

Fiveplusbump · 18/11/2008 18:17

Oh FFS .

Boco · 18/11/2008 18:20

Snopes - it's not a real petition

Yes it's a sad poem, but fake email petitions really don't help the cause. It's often a good idea to check snopes before forwarding things.

Twiglett · 18/11/2008 18:23

it's not a sad poem at all, it's an amazing piece of trite crap that happens to rhyme

euwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

US-Schmaltz

get a grip!

Twiglett · 18/11/2008 18:25

"And now the pain is cutting me,

Like a hundred stabbing knives"

ROFL

Twiglett · 18/11/2008 18:26

"I can hear the paramedic say,

This girl is going to die."

I bet you can't .. because paramedics don't say this kind of thing

BoysAreLikeDogs · 18/11/2008 18:28

The poem is pretty weak as a stand alone piece

[understatement]

Twiglett · 18/11/2008 18:28

I am becoming rather enamoured at what a bad piece of poetry it is now

Kathyis6incheshigh · 18/11/2008 18:30

Loving the 'Sprite' product placement in the fourth line!

Twiglett · 18/11/2008 18:31

I wish that you could hold me Mum,

As I lie here and die.
I wish that I could say, 'I love you, Mum!'
So I love you and good-bye.

it doesn't even SCAN

Twiglett · 18/11/2008 18:31

I can hear that woman from 'The Weakest Link' in the final line ROFL

Kathyis6incheshigh · 18/11/2008 18:32

This poem is so painful it's cutting me like a hundred stabbing knives.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 18/11/2008 18:33

It's not even psychologically convincing. Surely she would really be thinking 'well darn it, I should have let Brad get to second base after all!'

LynetteScavo · 18/11/2008 18:34

ROFL Twiglett - I swear you are the funniest person on MN! I thought you had flounced?

yes I did and mainly I have, but allow me an occasional glimpse.

Anyway crap poetry is designed to get me posting with vigour .. I loves it!

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 18/11/2008 20:45

What a moving experience. I feel very much as Oscar Wilde did on reading the death of Little Nell. Thank you, OP, from the bottom of my heart.

Boco · 18/11/2008 20:45

Well yes, of course it's a terrible load of shite, but I was trying to be kind to the OP before revealing that it's a terrible load of shite.

I got into my car,

Sure to get home in one piece,
I never knew what was coming, Mum
Something I expected least.

That's the worst verse.

poppy34 · 18/11/2008 20:47

is there some kind of poetry award? couldn't they put this in for the nobel award (ok its literature). this is too good to go unremarked...

CharCharGabor · 18/11/2008 21:01

(rofl) I mean

DisgustedManxMum · 18/11/2008 22:41

I am so glad you all found it sooooo funny

Would you have been so scathing if I had posted in 'bereaved'?

May I ask if YOU have lost someone you love to the drunk driver?

Heartless, insensitive, pathetic - Hope you sleep well tonight

Twiglett · 19/11/2008 10:06

oh FGS

pathetic, drivelly attitude is exactly what removed me from MN in the first place

Netmums would like it
