Boys names - quick poll

Don't know what sex I'm having but we're struggling to pick a boys name. All seem to be "taken" - in fact 2 potentials have been taken in last 2 days!

But, bit shy about posting this now, we both like teh name...Jesse.

Will he get laughed at (You big jessy) or have a lifetime of saying "Yes, Jesse, you know, just like Jesse James"

Opinions please.

pollyanna, what is it with these men???

Twiglett · 15/03/2005 19:01

ya big Jessy

sorry .. that immediately came to mind

Pollyanna · 15/03/2005 19:02

it's very annoying - dh is normally quite easygoing (he does what I want mostly ) but wouldn't agree with any of my names for any of my (our)children.

Cod, DH has said if we ever have another boy, he wants to call him Miles. Mainly because DS is Fraser and he thinks it would be funny to have a Fraser and Miles - people already call Fraser Frasier (because obviously I don't know how to pronounce my son's name!) I do like the name Miles, but don't think it's going to be one we have!

(Just realised if you don't watch Frasier, this will be incomprehensible!)

fisil · 15/03/2005 19:09

Round here "Jessie" also means prostitute. However, I taught a very cool lad (c. 16) last year called Jesse, and I never heard any kid using his name to cuss him - even though they call each other Jessies a lot.

Ta for this thread, added 2 more names to my list!

yep .. manchester originally

HUNKERMUNKER · 15/03/2005 19:13

Nooo! Don't like Nyles at all

(Do like your boys name, Lockets - lovely!)

And in answer to the op's question, wouldn't have Jesse as I know too many Jessicas (that name's getting very popular these days - I've known several born in the last year and several boys who would've been Jessicas had they been girls!).

SeaShells · 15/03/2005 19:14

Zac is a nice name for a boy

If DD had been a boy we had chosen the name Adam.

fisil · 15/03/2005 19:19

Not telling lockets - we're very secretive about name ideas (and dp & I haven't even started discussing yet!). We're only looking at boy names cos we think it's a boy and we've still got a girl name left over from last time! We've set ourselves a challenge cos ds has an unusual name (as you'll find out tomorrow) so we can't have a John or Roger next!

But it's not any of the ones you suggested - we both like Miles but I won't go there because I still remember the 80s yuppie stereotypes, who always seemed to have my name and have a partner called Miles!

Hi there thought i'd stick my oar in! my ex is irish and we wanted an irish name for our ds. i absolutely loved the name 'Turlough' i was talked out of it by EVERYONE! we ended up with 'Myles', for what its worth my ds father has an irish name too 'Nial' ps still like Turlough 5+ years on! hee

Mirage · 15/03/2005 20:03

Thank you thankyou thankyou for this thread.
I am due in 12 wks & cannot for the life of me think of any names, boy or girl, that dh will agree to.

I have just mentioned 'Christian' to him & he loves it.Yayyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!

Now we need a girls name-we already have a dd called Isabella,so would prefer something fairly classic, but not popular.

handlemecarefully · 15/03/2005 20:04

Well what about Fenton - it's a grower.

Tinker · 15/03/2005 20:12

Alvin Stardust was Shane Fenton - wouldn't be able to get that image out of my mind.

Puska - I love Turlough too! (was it after
O'Carolan?). Mirage - what about Eleanor or Freya? I love those names - I'm having a ds2 though (deffo the last one) so won't be using them.
