Don't know what sex I'm having but we're struggling to pick a boys name. All seem to be "taken" - in fact 2 potentials have been taken in last 2 days!

But, bit shy about posting this now, we both like teh name...Jesse.

Will he get laughed at (You big jessy) or have a lifetime of saying "Yes, Jesse, you know, just like Jesse James"

Opinions please.

Kizzie also short for Keziah:

KEZIAH
Gender: Feminine
Usage: Biblical, English
Pronounced: ke-ZIE-a [key]
Extra Info: Related Names, Namesakes
Options: Contribute Information
Means "cassia" in Hebrew, from the name of the spice tree. In the Old Testament Keziah was a daughter of Job.

friend has two boys - Harley and Kyle

on a different note - DS2 (15 months ) has started to try and say his brothers name - Taf (actually Tafara but Taf for short) - but says "DAF"

If ds1 had been a girl, he would have been either Carys or Ella.
When I was expecting ds2 we liked Poppy.

got a friend who's dad was CONVINCED she was going to be a boy - and picked Rowan..............well she was obviously of the female variety so was called Rowena (which I think is a lovely name)

Janh · 15/03/2005 17:01

It's a very pretty name, lockets, goes nicely with Frances and is unusual too (but I always thought it was pronounced kezzy-a, prefer Kez-eye-a but everybody won't get it right, would that bother you?)

Kizzy is the heroine of The Diddakoi by Rumer Godden - she is a lovely character.

Marina · 15/03/2005 17:04

Ah, JanH, do you remember the lovely BBC TV children's series they did of that book? Wonderful.

Janh · 15/03/2005 17:07

No, Marina, I missed that, I'm afraid - it must have been in my not-watching-children's-TV phase (between being one and having them !)

Have read the book (though not recently) and love Rumer Godden anyway.

Is Jesse prounounced Jess or Jessy?

Wasnt there a Carly Simon ( or someone ) song called Jessy?

Oh mother, say a prayer for me
Jesse's back in town, it won't be easy
Don't let him near me
Don't let him touch me
Don't let him please me

Jesse, I won't cut fresh flowers for you
Jesse, I won't make the wine cold for you
Jesse, I won't change the sheets for you
I won't put on cologne
I won't sit by the phone for you

Annie, keep reminding me
That he cut out my heart like a paper doll
Sally, tell me once again
How he set me up just to see me fall

Jesse, I won't cut fresh flowers for you
Jesse, I won't make the wine cold for you
Jesse, I won't change the sheets for you
I won't put on cologne
I won't sit by the phone for you

Jesse, quick come here
I won't tell a soul
Not even myself
Jesse, that you've come back to me
My friends will all say "She's gone again"
But how can anyone know what you are to me
That I'm in heaven again because you've come back to me
Oh Jesse

Jesse, I'll always cut fresh flowers for you
Jesse, I'll always make the wine cold for you
Jesse, I can easily change my mind about you
And put on cologne
And sit by the phone for you

Jesse, let's open the wine
And drink to the heart
Which has a will of its own
My friends, let's comfort them
They're feeling bad
They think I've sunk so low

Jesse, I'll always cut fresh flowers for you
Jesse, I'll always make the wine cold for you
Jesse, I will change the sheets for you
Put on cologne
And I will wait by the phone for you
Oh Jesse

He sounds like a heartbreaker...!

Wow, like the sound of that Jesse. Think it's pretty popular in the US isn't it?

I have a nephew in Aus called Jesse - he is just gorgeous and has all the girls running after him at age 14! I think its a great name - different and individual - I think you should go for it!

noddyholder · 15/03/2005 18:27

jesse=californian tanned gorgeous cowboy!

kikidee · 15/03/2005 18:28

What about Hope for a girl Lockets? That was my girl's name but I had ds who is Alex. I loved Finn for a boy but DH wasn't having any of it.

treacletart · 15/03/2005 18:31

I like Jesse but Jessica is a very popular girls name now and I cant help feeling he'll end up with lots of "dear Madam" letters in the future. Unusual J names for a boy I like are Jonah and Jasper. Other boys with lesser used names I know (and like) are Inigo (although when he was tiny people often mistook him for a girl called Indigo), Claude (hated at first but love it now), Murray, Angus (sometimes shortened to Gus), Noah, and Gabriel (Gabe).

harrogatemum · 15/03/2005 18:34

kikidee - how weird - DTs born in Nov are Fin and Alex! (Finlay and Alexander)

janeybops · 15/03/2005 18:46

Lockets,
How about Thea for a girl - I had it picked out but had a boy. Means Goddess

Really like Jesse, also Jacob, Reuben, sebastian, Barnaby and Felix. However, dh vetoed all of these names, and dd3 would have been Tom if she had been a boy.

Bundle all of the girls names were on my list too - dh vetoed them all.

I do like Jack too, but heard somewhere that now one in five boys is called Jack.
