Don't know what sex I'm having but we're struggling to pick a boys name. All seem to be "taken" - in fact 2 potentials have been taken in last 2 days!

But, bit shy about posting this now, we both like teh name...Jesse.

Will he get laughed at (You big jessy) or have a lifetime of saying "Yes, Jesse, you know, just like Jesse James"

Opinions please.

I knew someone who spelt it Myles

Merlin · 15/03/2005 14:28

We have a Jack, am thinking for next one either Ryan/Max and Lily/Molly/Daisy.

choosing names is sucha huge responsibility imo my exp has a very common surname so we wanted a unusual name .we chose natalya its russian in origin ,no russians in the family lol .

strangely although we didnt know the sex before birth we didnt even really worry about a boys name ,must have been a sixth sense or something.

natalya really suits dd ,had some comments at first but everyones now used to it.i could never see her as a different name.

jesse is a lovely name i say go for it.

boy at my school was a miles, he really got the piss taken out of him (miles, piles) - not by me though! his brother was called guy and both names were considered quite unusual then.

Marina · 15/03/2005 14:31

Oh I love Guy bundle. We had a Miles and he was called Milly by various "wits" (led by a Kevin and a Stewart, I'm not sure why they thought their names were superior in any way)

Janh · 15/03/2005 14:32

I know a 17-yr-old Guy, he is gorgeous.

Gwenick · 15/03/2005 14:32

the thing is with names and kids - is that if a bully really wants to take the piss out of someone they'll find a way to do it.........

bundle · 15/03/2005 14:32

we had a Michael Caine at school!

handlemecarefully · 15/03/2005 14:42

Tinker,

I'm glad that Christian has been dismissed by your partner because it's my son's name and I am afraid you can't have it

Marina · 15/03/2005 14:45

I think it may be on the shortlist of another expectant Mumsnetter, gender permitting. Very nice name!

iota · 15/03/2005 14:47

I suppose that the upside of my 2 having very common names ( both in the top 10) is that a lot of people like them

handlemecarefully · 15/03/2005 14:47

Thanks...

Which mumsnetter is that then ? (so I can threaten her with menaces) -

dropinthe · 15/03/2005 14:48

My boys names are Taig and Tiernan-both Irish names although the first one is spelt wrong and pronounced wrong and anyone Irish will know we have unwittingly given him a Protestant swear word for a name!!!

Lonelymum · 15/03/2005 14:54

Is that the name that is pronounced tie?

Our ds is Rhys, but as we are expecting No 2, our fav girls names are Megan and Caitlin, but we're stuck on more boys names lmao

cori · 15/03/2005 16:26

I think its really hard to pick boys names. Especially as so many of the more unusal names can be seen as sisi. DS name is Kelsey, I worried about this for a while, then realised that we live in such a multicultural area so many children have unusual names it hardly matters any more.

I am pg at the moment. Dont know the sex yet.
I really like the name Jesse.
Other names I have considered Nathaniel ( can be shortened to Nate)
Girls names i like are Eve, Daisy, Grace so far.
I also really like Natalya who ever said that.

starlover · 15/03/2005 16:27

i had it on my names list! dp didn't like it though
