Boys names - quick poll

Don't know what sex I'm having but we're struggling to pick a boys name. All seem to be "taken" - in fact 2 potentials have been taken in last 2 days!

But, bit shy about posting this now, we both like teh name...Jesse.

Will he get laughed at (You big jessy) or have a lifetime of saying "Yes, Jesse, you know, just like Jesse James"

Opinions please.

Lockets and Tinker, still trying to guess your Greek names: Zoe? Aphrodite?

Tinker · 15/03/2005 14:06

Caspar has cropped up in discussions...as had Conrad . Jesse would be pronounced Jessie. Oh, there's Jesse Birdsall as well. Oh that might swing it, named after and El Dorado star!

Conrad has gravitas I think.

Tinker · 15/03/2005 14:07

Oh, don't know if I should reveal. Begins with an L, sounds like Olivia, don't say if you work it out.

Remember Jess Conrad, Tink? (No, you won't, because you are so young )

WideWebWitch · 15/03/2005 14:08

Ds had a very cool friend called Caspar. And another, also cool, called Oscar. I like them both.

Tinker · 15/03/2005 14:09

I do Jan . Conrad is dismissed because boyfriend knew horrible family with that name plus Conrad Black is horrible as well isn't he?

suzywong · 15/03/2005 14:09

Nah, they sound like a pair of dobermans

Lonelymum · 15/03/2005 14:10

dd was in a class with a little nuisance called Conrad so that puts me off.

WideWebWitch · 15/03/2005 14:10

Conrad Black is indeed horrible, but Caspar was a friendly ghost and I still like the name

I wouldn't go for Jesse whether it's pronounced Jessy or Jess. Just sounds girly to me (but that may be coloured by the fact I know a Jessica).

Love Celtic names though and have several lined up for my Mythical Third Child

Gwenick · 15/03/2005 14:14

Famous Jesse (males)

Jesse James
Jesse Johnson
Jesse Metcalfe (he was quite scrummy - have a look )
Jesse Jackson
Jesse Owens

suzywong · 15/03/2005 14:16

does it go with your surname though? that's a very important bit of an unusual name?

bundle · 15/03/2005 14:17

cod, someone i used to work with in southampton had kids with names like those..he doesn't work in tv does he?

iota · 15/03/2005 14:18

we had such angst choosing our kids names - you can always find something against every name - and trying to find something which sounded right with our surname was hard too.

In the end ds1 got the same name as my mum's (deceased) dog - which my brother found extremely amusing.

Five years on it just isn't relevant any more - he is who he is and his name belongs to him

Marina · 15/03/2005 14:19

By the time your little person is old enough hopefully Conrad Black will have vanished from the national scene, Tink.
I like Conrad a lot, and Christian (French but works fine in English too) and especially Dominic.
Miles? Sebastian? Jerome?

Tinker · 15/03/2005 14:20

Yes, lots of cool Jesses - think that may be middle name then. Both got boring English surnames. As to which one teh baby will have, well, that's another "discussion"

suzywong · 15/03/2005 14:21

who the heck is Conrad Black?

Tinker · 15/03/2005 14:21

Like Christian, mostly because Paolo Maldini has a son with that name. But it's been dismissed by partner.

Conrad Black is horrible Daily Telegraph owner (ex) married to Barbara Amiel - also horrible

Tinker · 15/03/2005 14:23

Right, must go, any other opinions greatly appreciated.
