I think I've allowed things to go too far with my childrens' bedtimes and it's time for a rethink. So tell me about your bedtimes please.

I will present this thread as evidence to counter the claims about their school friends going to bed at midnight etc.

PS They get up at 7.15, so it's about 10.5 hours.

Podrick · 15/11/2008 17:20

My 9 year old needs 11 hours!

Littlefish · 15/11/2008 17:37

My nearly 4 yr old goes at 7.00pm and is asleep within 5 minutes.

Like Podrick's dc, she needs a lot of sleep - about 13 hours per night. She won't nap in the day, so it has to be at night.

Blondilocks · 15/11/2008 17:38

DD 10 goes to bed at 8.30 in the week and 9 at weekends.

ScummyMummy · 15/11/2008 17:47

my 9 year olds go at 9. Bit later at the weekends.

ChasingSquirrels · 15/11/2008 17:58

2.9yo - around 7-7.15pm. I try to have left (after story and cuddle) by 7.30pm.

6yo - into bed once I have finished with 2yo. At the weekend he will stay up later and have a film or play games.
We read together, have a cuddle etc. I aim to leave by 8.30pm at the latest. He is often still awake at 10pm, but is just reading in bed and isn't often over tired. I lay the law down about once a week (usually Thu's) and insist that he is straight off to sleep when I leave, this seems to be enough to ensure he doesn't end the week over tired but if I try and do it too often it is counter productive.

I am on my own, before ex left and when he was home we would take turns to do bath then each do one child. So 6yo would be left earlier, but didn't go to sleep earlier.

School nights - 8yo - 8pm, 6yr old 7.45pm, 3 yr old 7.30am. If I could I would put littlest to bed earlier than this but physically cannot be done due to school pick ups! Weekend nights are 15 mins or so later for little two and 1/2 hr later for big one.

SoupDragon · 15/11/2008 18:10

Not quite 3 yo BabyDragon goes at about 7
DSs (nearly 8 & 10) go at 7:30 but are allowed to read til 8 and are told to turn the f-ing lights out and shut up at about 8:15. Well, I might not use that exact phrasing

SoupDragon · 15/11/2008 18:11

BabyDragon usually "reads" to herself for a while before going to sleep.

SheikYerbouti · 15/11/2008 18:20

3 year old goes to bed with his 2 year old brother between 6 & 7pm.

The earliness of the bedtime depends on how much of their behaviour I've had to endure that day and how high my tolerance levels are (usually v low)

lucykate · 15/11/2008 18:25

dd (6) and ds(3) both go to bed at 7, story till 7.30, this stands for weekends too. they don't cope with overtiredness well

2point4kids · 15/11/2008 18:30

ds is 3 and he is in bed by 7pm

LadyLauraStandish · 15/11/2008 18:31

On school nights:

ds1 (11) - to bed at 8pm but can read until 8.30pm.

ds2 (9) - to bed at 8pm and sleeps immediately (he loves his sleep).

Both have to get up at 6.15-6.30am though.

Lauriefairycake · 15/11/2008 18:31

10 year old - 8pm plus story so about 8.15.

Bubbaloo · 15/11/2008 18:34

Both ds's (3.4 and 19 months) go to bed between 6-6.30pm

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/11/2008 19:03

8yo - goes up at 7:30 read til 8pm with glass of milk then teeth and bed. Weekends its stop reading at 8:30

HRHSaintMamazon · 15/11/2008 19:04

4& 8 both go up at around 7 in the hopes that they are asleep for 8.

Boyswillbeboys · 15/11/2008 19:09

6.5 year old and 5 year old share a bedroom, in bed by 7.45 but usually chat to each other for a bit. The oldest always falls asleep first and wakes up last! Wake up about 7am.

filthymindedvixen · 15/11/2008 19:09

my 8 year old goes to bed at 8pm. He actually goes to sleep around 9pm but he is only allowed to read or listen to a story.

my 10 year old is nearly 11 and does not seem to need any sleep. However, he goes to bed at 8.30ish and rattles around upstairs until 10pm...(he makes lego wonderments )
Last night I let him watch a film with me til 10pm. He was still bumping around att 11pm

WantThisWantThat · 15/11/2008 20:11

3 yo is in bed usually for 7pm. Somtimes I will let her stay up a bit later onea Thursday/Weekend (unless she has' napped during the day time) as she doesn't need to get up at 0630 am for me to get ready for work. It doesn;t really matter what time I put her down though as she is usually up no later than 0715.

simpson · 16/11/2008 19:14
