So, DH hasn't had a bath in 5 years...

Would put this in AIBU, but I know I'm not BU

He cannot understand why I think it's utterly that he hasn't had a bath or shower in 5 years. He thinks a good wash suffices I don't think it does!

How on Earth can I convince him? I shower once a day, and like to bathe the DD's at least every other day. How often do your DP/H's have a bath/shower?

She didnt say he wasnt clean, she said he didnt bathe/shower but does wash and daily

purpleduck · 09/09/2008 16:27

ugh!!!!

WigWamBam · 09/09/2008 16:28

There is one very simple thing which you can do which may convince him.

"I will not have sex with you, or even let you get into bed with me, until you have a shower and clean your teeth, you filthy pig".

RustyBear · 09/09/2008 16:30

It's perfectly possible to wash properly without a shower or bath - when I was a child we didn't have a shower (very few people did) and with a large family there certainly wasn't enough hot water to have a bath each every day. You wash your back with a back brush.

But if washing daily were keeping him clean enough, there wouldn't be a problem and L2S wouldn't be posting.

pooka · 09/09/2008 16:35

I cannot understand how a wash at the sink would adequately enable your dh to clean all parts of himself. What about his bum, or between his toes, or any creases?

Bleurgh.

WRT bath phobia, a girl at the school my mother taught at did, I believe, develop a terrible phobia to baths. Followed being involved in a horrific passenger boat sinking, where was trapped in sinking boat taking in water.

So such a phobia or fear does exist. But I presume OPs dh has not experienced such incident.

misdee · 09/09/2008 16:35

it might do if he does a good job at it.

and a clean flannel/sponge daily.

plenty of soap

Love2Shower · 09/09/2008 16:37

WWB, he does clean his teeth (thankfully), it's Jazzicatz DH who doesn't. But I do like the thought of threatning him like that

Knickers, I can see why people think it's truly disgusting. I do too, sort of. I can see how he'd be 'clean' afetr washing, but I reckon he'd be much cleaner if he showered!

Yes Pooka. Exactly! Mostly clean, but not quite

however good a wash he could be having, and he could be, we don;t know how good, I am trying to picture how he can wash his back unless he has magical dislocating elbows.....

Podrick · 09/09/2008 16:38

I think things were a lot worse in the 18th century, console yourself with that thought...

misdee · 09/09/2008 16:39

dh managed his back fine. required a good stretch to do it though.

ComeOVeneer · 09/09/2008 16:45

The question that keeps going through my mind is why won't he bath/shower? In the absence of a phobia, surely it is much easier to just hop in the shower rather than have to manage in front of the sink. What is the point.

psychomum5 · 09/09/2008 16:48

really misdee?? flame was the other day wondering why boys and girls take their tops off differently and figured it may be that boys elbows don;t bend 'right'.....in fact DH cannot touch his hands together behind his back (altho maybe his huge muscles have something to do with it).

peter must be super bendy and stretchy and special

WigWamBam · 09/09/2008 16:48

But in the 18th century, L2S would have stunk too. So it wouldn't have mattered.

You have to put your foot down. If you are not happy with his level of personal hygiene, you have to make that known. Refusing to have sex with him until he showers will make the point far better than any other form of convincing.

SunshineSmith · 09/09/2008 16:48

oh my days.... diiiiiirty! How do you get close to his genitals?

dh is flexiable.

his fingers bend the wrong way yukky!

Earthymama · 09/09/2008 17:14

I used to work with a girl who would never wash up after tea break as she was 'allergic to water'. this was yonks ago before allergies were invented . All the staff used to talk about her, she was a generally lazy cow person so we thought it was just another excuse.

So years on, guess what, Earthymama is allergic to water!! My eczema and psoriasis flare up dreadfully if I wash up or have a bath, especially with soap or bubbles.

So apologies to LazyPerson in the Library!

However I DO bathe because I would never feel clean if I didn't, I use a barrier cream and then moisturise like crazy afterwards.

L2S, does he explain why he doesn't like to bathe or shower?

psychomum5 · 09/09/2008 17:22

misdee.....my DS1 is a freak super bendy person too.

his hands can look like claws!

psychomum5 · 09/09/2008 17:23

oh, not at all implying that peter is a freak.

tis what DS1 calls his hands.....he says his hands go freaky
