Sleepless night fretting about T and loos and lunches at big school - how neurotic am I ?!

OP posts:
HoHoHotcrossbunny · 04/12/2008 11:19

Oh it's all happening while I'm not around. Interviews, parents moving, Christmas smileys

Well done Hippi! You've done well even to apply and get an interview. I'm sure it was much much better than you thought. They do allow for interview nerves! I think your clothes sounded perfect. You were applying for a practical role within school, not running for Head A suit would be way overdressed IMO. If you don't get it BTW, you must really try not to let it upset you. There are so many applicants for these posts, and sometimes it goes to someone with a foot in the door already, not the person most appropriate IYSWIM? If they do offer it to you, do you think you'll say yes??????

MAS - you must be soooooooooo excited. How wonderful to have it all settled before Christmas. The flowers will really cheer up the empty house.

I've got a splitting headache at the moment. I had it all yesterday and woke up today with it too. I think it must be a result of the physio, and am trying to tell myself it's 'good pain'

Dear MIL rang last night, and said they want to come and visit the weekend before Christmas as it fits in with her boyfriend's children. My parents will be here already, so I've no idea where she'll sleep, and I can't face the stress of it all TBH. I'm also really cross as I feel we're being 'fitted in'. I'm sure I'm BU, but it's made me really cross and poor Dh didn't feel he could say no....

christMAScomesbutonceayear · 04/12/2008 11:28

hi hotcross ! sorry to hear about your headache and the headache of MIL on top ! I suppose Christmas time is very tricky for everyone to fit things in - but can understand feeling a bit grrr about it - I am awful at having people to stay, I love the idea, but in reality there's not enough room and I like it just being us 3... it's the staying over bit. Much as I loved FIL and MILs visit -we had a great time when they came - I got unreasonably tetchy about false teeth in my bathroom

hippipotami · 04/12/2008 11:31

Hi hotcross. Sorry about your headache, is it worth ringing the physio and aksing if you are meant to feel this way? When I had physio for whiplash (many moons ago) I certainly don't remember being in pain afterwards.

How is your dh?

I would be upset about the MIL phonecall too. Is there any way you could re-schedule her? Tell her that you already have visitors and could devote more attention to her at another time?

If I get offered teh job I will say yes. Purely because of the money. I need to contribute some more to the running of this family.
I will still be able to do some invigilating in the mornings and can keep my foot in the door at the secondary.
But I hope I don't have it deep down. I want the lady who was interviewed before me to get it. I know her vaguely, she has a lovey ds now in Y7, and a ds in E's year (but not in her class) She is one of these lovely, quiet, kind ladies who is so genuinly nice. She would be brilliant at it!

hippipotami · 04/12/2008 11:49

MAS, Hotcross, please can you help me on my rhyming clues for treasure hunt thread??

The clues are too easy but I cannot think of anything...

hippipotami · 04/12/2008 13:24

Phew, have just had teh phonecall from school, and it is the most perfect outcome

I did not get the job. However, they want me to come in for a day's training in being a lunchtime supervisor, and see the bursar to give my bank details, and they want to use me as a supply lunchtime supervisor. Brilliant! I could pick up a few hours work per term (there are 9 lunchtime supervisors in the school so chances are at some point one will be off with a poorly child or poorly themselves)
And best of all, I don't have to give up on invigilating

Phew, am very pleased!

christMAScomesbutonceayear · 04/12/2008 15:00

yay !!!!! see - things do work out for the best - I really do think that - hoorah !!!!!

hippipotami · 04/12/2008 16:38

I am pleased. I got a bit disappointed earlier this afternoon, but no, it is teh best outcome.

HoHoHotcrossbunny · 04/12/2008 16:50

Well done Hippi! You sort of got the job in a way that means you don't have to do it IYSWIM? You can pick and choose, and still do the invigilating and keep watch for something more you to come along Pleeeeeeeeease don't be hard on yourself, it doesn't mean you aren't good enough, it just means that one other candidate gave answers closest to what they were looking for. They actually are probably not as good at the job as you could be, but they know the right answers.

Sorry haven't looked at your rhymes thread yet, will try to after the plumber has been.

christMAScomesbutonceayear · 04/12/2008 17:04

oh crikey - hope he has been soon and everything ok - I did think of that earlier..

HoHoHotcrossbunny · 04/12/2008 21:03

Plumber forgot to come He can come on Tuesday.... We're going to try to find someone else, but we're a bit worried about costs....

christMAScomesbutonceayear · 04/12/2008 21:45

he forgot ? oh poor hotcross

hippipotami · 05/12/2008 09:41

he forgot

Oh you poor thing, I would be sooo cross adn upset.
Try to find someone else in the meantime, accordign to dh plumbers are in great demand and hence feel they can pick adn choose jobs. 'i forgot' is the most used excuse when a better / more lucrative job popped up.

christMAScomesbutonceayear · 05/12/2008 16:23

moving day ! parents are in,men carrying boxes and furniture, bit chaotic and cold,so am home with T and mum and will go back shortly...

hippipotami · 05/12/2008 16:49

Oooo how exciting MAS!!

christMAScomesbutonceayear · 05/12/2008 16:53

it is, but also a bit anxiety making - I resorted to some rescue remedy this morning - was anxious for my parents and for dad who might feel sad at leaving his old house/studio and even for the people leaving their new house as they loved it so !
Got a reply about invigilating at T's school - they have a regular team who are trained by the school and occassionally advertise in local paper/newsletter - I asked if they'd keep my name on record...

hippipotami · 05/12/2008 16:55

Good news, not the best, but at least they have got you on record.

Our team seems to take on new members all the time. But then it is a huge school with 300 pupils per year group. So for each exam they need at least 15 invigilators.
I was trained by the school too - it just involves watching some training videos adn a question and answer sesstion. Nothing to it, so when they call you you will be fine

christMAScomesbutonceayear · 05/12/2008 21:49

thanks hippi - will try the college too...
parents have gone home after Chinese take away and champagne - dad made the bed and we located breakfast stuff so they should be ok !

christMAScomesbutonceayear · 08/12/2008 13:06

good afternoon - just reporting in briefly - have been helping my olds sort themselves out - things a bit chaotic but gradually getting sorted...dad has already sawn through the fence !! Hope you are both well and that hotcross will soon be warm again at home xxx

hippipotami · 08/12/2008 15:01

Hello
Thanks for the lovely email Christmas card
Am home feeling a bit poorly - upset stomach. Luckily dh is home. It is his 40th tomorrow and we are hoping to go out ot lunch, so hopefully I will be back to normal by then

Glad to hear your parents are settling in so well MAS!

christMAScomesbutonceayear · 08/12/2008 15:48

oh poor hippi - hope you do feel better for lunch tomorrow and HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Mr hippi - he is young and sprightly !

HoHoHotcrossbunny · 08/12/2008 16:39

Hope you feel better for tomorrow Hippi. We're a poorly household too. B was terribly sick yesterday, and is only now perking up and declaring herself hungry. We'll see how she gets on. It's been nice having her home today, we've done some crafty things and watched lots of Tom and Jerry. Just hope neither of us get it.....

She wasn't too poorly to open a tied up bag this morning that contained lots of stocking fillers though I thought I'd put it in the loft while she lay poorly on the sofa! Dh is all for taking them back, I don't know what to do. It was a bag of Woolworths stuff. Mainly DVD's, undies and stationary, but will they take it back??? Typical, it's the only pressie shopping we've managed so far this year!

Thank you MAS for the lovely card Also for the filling in thing. Will work out how to cut and paste!

christMAScomesbutonceayear · 08/12/2008 17:16

why would you have to take it all back hotcross ? or am I being very dense ? you could maybe swap some things ?
hope B feels much better too

hippipotami · 09/12/2008 09:03

Morning you two, am feeling much better thans
Mr Hippi is taking O and E to school, after we nearly overslept this morning (thank heavens O got up and woke us just in time!)
I shall tell him you think he is sprightly MAS, he will like that

Hotcross, will B remember what was in the bag? Christmas is 3 weeks away yet...

Right, better go and rustle up some breakfast, back later. Have a good day!

christMAScomesbutonceayear · 09/12/2008 09:32

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR HIPPI !
glad you're feeling better hippi and have a lovely day !

HoHoHotcrossbunny · 09/12/2008 09:57

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR HIPPI from the Hotcross household Hope you have a FANTASTIC day!

Glad you're feeling better Hippi. B is still at home but beginning to eat which is always a good sign!

The presents were intended for her stocking - Disney pants, socks etc, and a much prized Jungle in My Pocket set. I really don't want her to put 2 and 2 together....it could spoil her Christmas and my nephew's too if she said anything. I think we will have to try to take them back (if Woolworths will take them), or give some of it under the tree from us. Just a pain

How are your parents MAS? Are they happy?
