How do you make your partner take candid photos/videos of YOU with your children?

I swear to god, I am disappearing from captured memories. If it wasn’t for my selfies and staged videos I would have nothing candid to look back at. I have so many candid videos of my husband and our daughter and they are the most wholesome short videos. He says that I need to ask him, and I do, sometimes, but the moment is gone when I actually ask him and then pretend to be “in the moment”. Also sometimes I just feel I’m nagging him to do it. I just wish he would just think of taking the phone out and capturing a few candid moments there and there each week and sending those to me later. I made this collage and mini video of their candid moments together and got so sad when I realised I have nothing like that. What do you do? How do you make them into a habit to actually start doing it without asking? Help a new mama xx

Some people love taking photos and videos and some don't. If your dh doesn't, then you can't turn him into someone else. You will just have to accept that.

I could be wrong but I don’t think she called you xyz, but you did call her sad, bitter and tell her to shut up. It’s not very kind.

if you see her comment she did tell me I can just tell her to shut up so I did. I wouldn’t have said it otherwise. And she was very unkind to me first pushing down on what is right and wrong to do when it comes to capturing memories (or not, in her case)

While I can see that the way some posts have been written are a bit mean spirited, and perhaps they are bitter, that is a woman who lost the father of her child telling you to just enjoy the moments because you can’t really change your husband and it’s not the photos and videos that matter but the memories if the worst happens. If your husband loves you, you have a happy family life and occasionally you have to remind him to take a photo, it’s not that big a deal.
This comes from a woman also invisible in the family album btw.

It is someone coming onto a forum being judgemental, rude and calling people names for asking a completely inoffensive question.

It is unnecessary and unpleasant, whatever the circumstances.

She called OP "warped" before OP said any of that, has said it more than once and been continually rude and unpleasant. OP just asked a simple question.

Yes! And only after these few times that I called her sad and bitter.. anyway this whole thread was about a positive thing, an advice for a mum who wants to have more candid captured memories of her with her daughter. This turned into a completely nasty conversation of her even wanting this because of her “ego” - it’s ridiculous. So let’s just stop. If you don’t have any advice then please just do not comment at all.x

My DH is the same. 100s of pics of him and DD.

But then! We went to a castle Weds and I forgot to take my phone. I had to ask him once or twice but he stepped up! So forget your phone!

Actually this is quite a good idea, thanks! Maybe I’ll try that. And maybe he will get used to when he sees how much I appreciate them. Thank you!

When you are out with friends, mention it to them and ask them to take a few during the time. If it wasn’t for my female friends there would be no photos of me with my family! Just never occurs to my DH. He takes pictures of the kids and he’ll take a picture of me if I’m dressed up and in his view “hot” but he doesn’t take any of me being a mum.

Oh that is a very good advice! Thank you. I haven’t thought about this!
