what has shocked you Beety? I think it's quite a reasoned debate so far.

colditzmum · 21/01/2005 10:51

Do you know, the reason I didn't look back into archives is because people on this site change their nicknames so often it would have been irrelevant.

People also post because they want to talk to the people who are there NOW. Not the people who originally discussed it, who might be anywhere, who might have changed their name.

Also, when you post something that you think is interesting, you don'y feel like checking the archives to see how many people you are going to bore stupid. You just post it.

If a group of people were having a conversation in real life, that you had already discussed with people you know, would you approach them and saY "Can you not talk about this please, other people were talking about this 3 months ago!"?

No, you wouldn't, because it would be a bit rude!

FGS leave her alone . Cod wasn't saying no one is allowed to post anything that has been covered before - she's saying there is useful stuff int he archives why not use it. It's like a bloody playground agree with beetroot - snidey comments - yuck

Beetroot - shocked? why? Sorry - but I have no idea why.

I am not being snidy, and I don't think anyone else has been. Just putting forward a different view - and giving examples to back up why they feel that way.

Yes, archieved messages is great tool and should be used, but also I can see no problems at all with new posts even if they are repetitive for older posters.

As I said - no one has to post on them if they don't want to!

No. It's a knock to your confidance when you post something that you feel is interesting, and the first reply you get is "Oh, God not this AGAIN." I'm not siding with anyone, Just I personally feel a bit offended.

SoupDragon · 21/01/2005 10:57

wtf has that got to do with anything?

It doesn't matter what name something is posted under, what matters is the info.

KBear · 21/01/2005 10:57

I think that they could be read as being funny rather than snidey.

It's the age old thing of the long-term posters and the newbies - I think its wrong to make the newbies scared to post in case they are boring anyone.

There is a girl in my office who has just left to have her first baby. She asked me a million questions about pregnancy, prams, cots, bfing, etc etc. I never said to her, sorry luv, been there, done that, find out for yourself.

And I'm not starting a row, just trying to be reasonable.

nailpolish · 21/01/2005 10:57

as i said before, some people find reading old posts and threads not enough, sme people like to chat about it

flashingnose · 21/01/2005 10:58

sorry

now I know why I usually lurk
