(POlitely asks) is there any chance people could use archived search a bit more?

OP posts:
Mothernature · 21/01/2005 10:59

just pointing out she likes to be read...then don't we all.

SoupDragon · 21/01/2005 11:00

Sorry, don't understand MNature.

nutcracker · 21/01/2005 11:00

Think the prob is more that people do not like being told what to do on a board that is meant to be for everyone.

TBH I don't care if there are 3 threads a day started on baby pasta, if i have any info to add then i'll add it, if not then i won't........wheres the prob.

nasa · 21/01/2005 11:00

what's the name of the poster got to do with anything? it's the INFORMATION that's useful not the poster. There are really good threads in the archive with a wealth of experience and knowledge, of course it is good to get fresh perspective/instant support but you're missing out if you ignore it.

KBear · 21/01/2005 11:01

Beety, it will always be like that. It's mums, there are mums with teenagers, mums with tums, mums with newborns. We can all help each other so much but not if we make people feel silly for posting what, to them, is important.

lilsmum · 21/01/2005 11:02

i TOTALLY agree with hulababy!!! she is so right

moderatorlou33 · 21/01/2005 11:04

Okie dokie, its all getting a bit heated isnt it?

This is my idea on it all. Yes we get loads of threads starting about the same thing over and over again, but newer members may not be aware of those threads, and could also be unaware of the search facility. So what I suggest, is that instead of saying, "this has been done to death, do a search", which can come over as unwelcoming and brusque, that some lovely netters should use their search abilities to provide a link to the relevent archived thread, with a cheery "hth" on the end. Then we could all be happy again.

Really confused as to why it matters? I thought I was normal when I come on mn I look at the new threads Im on (Great idea!) and then click on to active conversations. I look down the list, if anything interesting is there and I'm feeling nosey I'll have a look, if not I won't. Likewise, if there are any threads there which I feel I can contribute to, I'll look and post if it hasn't been said before or I think I can be of help. Now, why does it matter if the thread is a been there done that. If it dosen't interest you, don't look at it! I can't believe people have the time to spend to look at all the threads that bore them too, but then, my DS is very new and life is still hectic, but even so?

collision · 21/01/2005 11:08

well said Lou! I have lurked on this as I am a bit scared to post!

moderatorlou33 · 21/01/2005 11:08

stop sucking up you know i love it

Flossam · 21/01/2005 11:09

And why do I always take so long to post that Lou gets in there with a stop it all of you and I look like a naughty schoolgirl?!

moderatorlou33 · 21/01/2005 11:09

sorry collision that was aimed at beety, i would never be so cheeky to you!

moderatorlou33 · 21/01/2005 11:10

smacks floss on the bot....

Flossam · 21/01/2005 11:11

oww.

collision · 21/01/2005 11:11

hee-hee!!

lilsmum · 21/01/2005 11:13

iam probably going to get grief for this, but why are there people who think they can lay down the law? if people want to post they can about what ever subject they want....totally agree with what moderatorlou33 and hulababy said, i have been chatting to a new mumnetter recently on msn and she felt she was jumped on for a post she put on about weaning!! its ridiculous, soon mumsnet will just be the cliquey gang and all new members will be put off, its supposed to be about HELPING EACH OTHER!!! why does it always end up with these type of arguments?? freedom of "post" so to speak!!

I think lou has kind of said it all lilsmum. and nobody is 'laying down the law' calm down

Blu · 21/01/2005 11:17

Ummmm, following Cod's (POlite) suggestion, most people have now agreed that there are indeed many benefits to posting anything you like anew and ad infinitum. flashingnose and Lou have constructively pointed out ways of enabling people to find info that may still be useful, and also being polite and welcoming to anyone who wants to post.

So I'm not sure why anyone needs to feel huffy or offended?

(but I will no doubt now find out )

lilsmum · 21/01/2005 11:20

i am not offended, "huffy" or nor do i need to be told to calm down thanks, i am just stating my opinion... i always normally stay out of these sort of discussions, but i am entitled to my opinion, or am i being told i am not now?

Not at all. Lilsmum, but aren't we all in danger of getting a bit dizzy, now?

paolosgirl · 21/01/2005 11:23

And hooray for Lilsmum and everyone else who will carry on posting what they like, when they like, and will use the archives when it suits them alone.
