as we are having a lot of new threads that are already covered at length ( baby pasta spring sot mind)

OP posts:

Agree with Hulababy. Also, new people to mn should not be made to feel they have to stand on the sidelines only looking up previously discussed info, in case they bore older mn's who have been through it all before. If you have a current problem, then surely on a board like this you should be able to have a current discussion about it. If anyone can helpfully direct you to some previous relevant info then all well and good.

Hulababy · 21/01/2005 10:37

With opinions, and example, given in return - albeit several to the contrary.

flashingnose · 21/01/2005 10:37

When I picture coddy, she always has a big wooden spoon in her mitt...

Gobbledigook · 21/01/2005 10:37

I'm with ya Hulababy (as usual {wink})

paolosgirl · 21/01/2005 10:38

Or how about a thread for anyone who doesn't want to cover anything that anyone else has already covered in the last 75 years. Then they can sit quite happily together saying absolutley nothing? Or - we can accept that MN is for everyone?

Gobbledigook · 21/01/2005 10:38

even

paolosgirl · 21/01/2005 10:38

And well said RTKanga...

for Kanga

Hulababy · 21/01/2005 10:40

Well done Kanga!

I do sometimes go and find my old thread myself (as I know roughly where it may be quicker) and post a link to it, or copy and paste.

flashingnose · 21/01/2005 10:41

But there's a big difference between:

oh no, not again, yawn

and

see this thread

isn't there? Surely there's nothing wrong in "old-timers" linking back to previous, very useful, threads?

Hulababy · 21/01/2005 10:41

Sorry Bettroot and Cod - still can not see the proble,. If you don't like the new threads as has been covered before, then you don't have to post on it. Simple answer.

There appears to be many posters on MN who are not bothered by having similar subjects returning - let's face it, as I listed earlier, there'd be not much left to start threads about if we only postsed new subjects entirely!

paolosgirl · 21/01/2005 10:41

No - the point is, it's a free country, and if I want to start a thread that has been done a million times, I will thanks. So step out of those bossy boots, and put the high horse awy in its stable.

Blu · 21/01/2005 10:42

And Coddy was (SPecifically) being polite!

Hulababy · 21/01/2005 10:42

flashingnose - I agree with you, and this is sometimes what I do, espeically if it is a long post or I know there's lots of veery relevant stuff.

morningpaper · 21/01/2005 10:43

Also new posters like to GIVE advice as well as receive it.

I DO think that 'old posters' get bored of these kind of chatboards after a while, and that's the brunt of the problem - I expect I will get bored of MN too by the time I am ... maybe 68 or something.

I like it when i'm directed to an old link that has some useful info/tips on it however, i also like to get current up to date views from people i 'know'.

I do a bit of both but i get a kick when people answer my threads in the here and now.

So there Coddy
(How are the sleepy boys??)

flashingnose · 21/01/2005 10:44

coddy and beetroot - founder members of Gransnet.

misdee · 21/01/2005 10:45

think threads need to be started even if we have 100+ on baby pasta, someone may not know that organix pasta was great and how sad we are that it appears to have gone

i have answered dozens of post on eczema, many times repeating myself over and over, and tbh i dont care. if someone needs advice or a cry/shout/scream/rant etc then they should be able to start a subject thread freely.

yes, use archieve threads, but sometimes u need more.

paolosgirl · 21/01/2005 10:46

Or Ourmumsnet??

KBear · 21/01/2005 10:46

I agree with RTKM - takes the sponteneity out of the discussion board if, before you dare ask a question, you have to check whether it has been covered at length two years previously.

FGS stop being so bossy Cod.

Marina · 21/01/2005 10:47

You have it in a nutshell, flashingnose. I think that can really help old-timers and newbies alike.

lou33 · 21/01/2005 10:47

am sure coddy has posted another thread like this in the past............

wish she wouldnt keep repeating herself

Hulababy · 21/01/2005 10:48

Any further thoughts yourself Coddy - you appear to have gone quiet on the subject???
