What to expect for sentencing at court on Friday?

Ladieunlucky · 23/09/2024 07:51

Im being sentenced this Friday at crown court. I was charged for fraud under false representation due to a manic episode where I stole money from employers. I have bi polar disorder and was un medicated at the time. I handed myself in when I realised what I did and I have lost all my friends and reputation, butonly what I deserve. This charge is because I was in a position of trust. I have seen a psychiatrist for pre sentencing report.

I’ve been advised the sentencing guidelines start at 3 years, reduced by a 3rd because of my early guilty plea and co operation. Mitigating factors are I have not offended before, early plea and co operation, previous good character, have a 15 year old who I have joint custody with. And also my mental illness.

I am prepared for a custodial sentence and just wondered what I can expect on the day in court, how long it takes as no there is no trial. And what to pack in my bag to bring to prison?

I understand this may be my fate and what I deserve and have never once said I’m not guilty. Please just kind comments as this time is very difficult x

Great news, wishing you all the best as you get on with your life.

ApolloandDaphne · 27/11/2024 16:33

That sounds like the best outcome you could have hoped for. You can still work and be there for your DD. I wish you well.

Aliciainwunderland · 27/11/2024 16:34

Fantastic news! This is the first day in the rest of your life. You have shown accountability for your actions and that is the best you can do xx

KhakiShaker · 27/11/2024 16:36

I’ve not posted before but have been following your story. Really pleased for you OP. This is the right outcome and hopefully you can move on with your life now with your DD x

Just delighted for you OP - as you say, the best possible outcome, but it seems like the judge was very fair in his dealings with you (and I wonder if his having you put in a cell for an hour while he considered your sentence was a deliberate ploy for you to know what it would feel like because this would be a shock to the system of anyone who's never experienced custody before). Whatever his reasoning and his strong words to you (rightly), he's given you a second chance whilst also punishing you, which seems like a good outcome for your victim and society as a whole, as well as you. I sincerely hope you have a wonderful Christmas with your DD and that your first-time offence proves to be your once-only-ever offence (I honestly think it will be because I don't think you would have done what you did unless you'd been in the grip of a manic episode). Very best of luck for the future, OP. 🤗

This is everything I wanted to post but put far more eloquently than I could ever hope to. Genuinely thrilled for you @Ladieunlucky , I remember your first posts way back in the summer and your remorse and fear has always radiated off the screen to me. Even when people have piled onto you, you never became defensive over your former actions.
You must now work on some self care and rest for a bit. And have a lovely Christmas 😊.

Scutterbug · 27/11/2024 16:40

That’s good news! Enjoy your Xmas with your daughter x

Hi all I’m home! The best outcome I could of asked for.

Suspended sentence of 2 years, and electronic curfew with a tag for 4 months. Aswell as 10 rehabilitation days. The curfew is from the hours of 8pm-5am 5 days a week. With Tuesday and Wednesday no curfew. The judge decided this as Xmas eve and day, as well as New Year’s Eve are all Tuesday or weds so he said this is time to spend with my daughter. And the hours are to allow me to travel to work. The judge did rip me apart in there which is what I deserve, he said I’m not a good role model to my daughter which I know and hate myself for. But he also said looking at my other background, mental health and abuse from my childhood, he’s taken all of that into account but wasn’t going to air it in the court room. He said that my daughter is doing her GCSEs and I need to go and support her. He sent me to custody for an hour where I was put in a cell to wait. While he decided on the sentencing.

Im relieved and everything he said was fair and I just now want to try be the best mum I can be. Thank you all for you support you’ve been with me every step of the way 🩷 I’m astonished by all your kindness.

God bless you. I'm so happy for you.
