Where would you love to live and why?

I often dream of a small holding somewhere along the coast between LA and San Fransisco, just a few hundred acres or so. Great light, culture, space, skiing within driving distance, a few nags, dryer climate..

Second choice would be New Zealand, never been but looks perfect for family life.

...with todays weather, anywhere would do..!

LOL Nailpolish , although haven't a clue what that means - I am originally from Dundee but champion Glasgow time and time again to anyone who will listen!!

nailpolish · 07/01/2005 16:30

nailpolish · 07/01/2005 16:31

Fimbo · 07/01/2005 16:32

Nailpolish-I was having a thick moment then

Fimbo · 07/01/2005 16:34

Sorry Nailpolish crossed posts. Yeah I suppose it has changed in some ways for the better. My parents still live in the West End and my pil live in Wormit, the jobs are still in decline though. I used to live in Newburgh for a while, where are you in Fife?

sweetkitty · 07/01/2005 16:44

Ideally would love to live in the West End of Glasgow again but with me becoming a SAHM can't afford it and it's looking like somewhere like East Kilbride or Livingston to start with as DP will probably be transferred to Edinburgh.

Can't wait to return home though

"oh the Glesga banter"

alicatsg · 07/01/2005 16:58

Torridon, way up in the highlands of Scotland. just too calm and peaceful for words.

or St Andrews by the sea, assuming they cleared out the golfers and students first

sweetkitty · 07/01/2005 17:04

I would also have another house in Spain or somewhere warm of course, just so I can get to see the sun no and again.

used to live in leuchars

dinny · 08/01/2005 19:55

Nikki and Puff, I am from the Isles of Scilly. It was a wonderful place to grow up.

PuffTheMagicDragon · 08/01/2005 19:56

Ooooh dinny, which island did you live on (if you don't mind me asking) and do you still visit?

dinny · 08/01/2005 19:59

Not at all, Puff. St Mary's. Still go home loads, my Mum and Dad and about 500 relations still there. M & D still run their business which you have probably been into if you've stayed on St Mary's but I can't say what it is without completely revealing identity to any Scillonians who may be lurking

I think the Scilly Isles are magical - how lovely to be a Scillonian! I only spent a few days there (on St.Mary's and Tresco) with my Mum. I can't wait to go again and take my two boys - I was going to wait until they are both old enough to ride a proper bike, although I suspect I'll go earlier!

When do you think is a really good time to go?

dinny · 08/01/2005 20:16

So glad you like it, Puff
I think June is best time personally - usually nice weather. August is my least favourite. And of course Christmas for all the gales and seeing the new year in in the Mermaid.
Always makes me sad that dd and ds aren't having the magical childhood I did there. But it has changed a lot since I was young - much much busier these days.

PuffTheMagicDragon · 08/01/2005 20:18

Thanks. Might just have a look at a hol there this year. You've got me in the mood !

dinny · 08/01/2005 20:21

We're next there at Easter - taking ds for first time. Cab't wait.

Waiheke Island in the Hauraki Gulf. 25 minutes on the hydrofoil to Auckland, vineyards, beaches, kyaking and scenery to die for. Get to Auckland and there's shopping and facilities, hot springs an hour or so drive away and the friendliest people on the planet (though I'm a bit biased there)

nailpolish · 09/01/2005 13:07

cod cant believe you lived in leuchars. NICE!

im just down the road from there
