Not sure why you necessarily need a small car because you’re petite. My 5 ft friend has a Range Rover which is perfect for her as she has a high driving position, adjustable steering wheel, adjustable seat height, short reach to pedals and a step that automatically comes out and retracts to get in and out of the car. She says she feels much safer in that than in a small car where she has a far less visibility as her height means she can’t see as far ahead.

Some of these suggestions are great small cars in manual but have dreadful automatic gear boxes. So do make sure you research specifically what the car is like as an AUTO not just suggestions from people driving manuals. The VW Up is a horrible auto but great little manual.
Electric?

strawberryblue · 23/02/2024 21:53

@doubleshift thank you! I only want auto and yes would consider electric too so confusing so much to consider!

So I know now-

I want an adjustable raisable seat
💺 so that's a must too 🤣

I have an i10 - my second. This newer version is even better/nippier. (I’m 5’3) Easy to park - even with no rear camera and my crap parking 😂

MumOfHals · 23/02/2024 21:53

My Mini Cooper is my favourite, great little cars... got a bit about them too to get out at roundabouts / busy junctions :)

Decafflatteplease · 23/02/2024 21:54

I'm 5 foot and drive a bus 7 seater and look forward to the day we can afford a second car just for me to pootle around in rather than our current tank!

RoseyLentil · 23/02/2024 21:55

Hyundai i10 1.2?automatic.
Fab little car. I love mine.

LizzieSiddal · 23/02/2024 21:57

I’m 5’2” and have an Automatic mini countryman which I love. The seat is really adjustable so you can move lots of bits, so it to suits you.

3peassuit · 23/02/2024 21:57

DD is 5’ 1” and has an automatic Aygo. She thinks it’s good to drive, economical and parking’s easy.

PurBal · 23/02/2024 21:57

Fiesta

strawberryblue · 23/02/2024 21:58

@LizzieSiddal do you find the pedals really far away like some others have mentioned? X

Dabralor · 23/02/2024 21:58

I love my mini but it's not small - the thing is like a tank. We drove an electric smart car recently on a test drive and it was brilliant fun.

strawberryblue · 23/02/2024 21:59

@Dabralor what mini do you have please

No I don’t, the seat height can be adjusted, so it’s no problem at all for me.

Lookingfornemo · 23/02/2024 22:01

I have a 3 month old hyundai i10 and I hate it! It's a great size, easy to drive and park but the new safety features mean that it beeps constantly for all sorts of stupid things. You can turn off some safety features but you have to do it every single time you start the car. I wouldn't recommend it and I'd get rid of this one if I could 😂

Dabralor · 23/02/2024 22:02

It's a clubman like this.

I love it. It's not heavy to drive or anything, but feels like a big solid car, despite being called a mini.

Dabralor · 23/02/2024 22:03

Sorry meant countryman not clubman. I think they might be a bit smaller?

LoudSnoringDog · 23/02/2024 22:03

I love my fiat 500

im on my 4th one

gano · 23/02/2024 22:10

Loved my Aygo so much that I had 2 of them. My exh loved driving them as well. Plus Toyotas are very reliable and I never had any mechanical issues with either car.

GinandGingerBeer · 23/02/2024 22:30

Auto fiats are shite. They're not true automatics. I had one and I now have an auto mini which is a dream of a drive.

MrsAvocet · 23/02/2024 22:32

I'm a bit bemused by the idea that small people need small cars. I'm just under 5ft and I have never driven particularly small cars. I currently drive a Skoda Kodiaq which is the biggest car in their range. The key thing is having a seat with plenty of adjustment and an adjustable steering column can also be helpful. The seat in my car can actually go too far forwards even for me, but DH who is nearly a foot taller than me can drive it comfortably too.
I mean if you want a small car for other reasons that's fair enough OP, but don't be put off trying a wider range of cars just because you're short.

honeyfox · 23/02/2024 22:38

True, doesn't have to be a tiny car as long as it's adjustable.

I like my manual Fiesta but have also driven my husband's Mazda CX3. The seat length is not great, it kinda gets me behind the knees (I'm 5'0) but otherwise really nice to drive. Unfortunately it's a bit of a lemon as we've had endless issues with it since he got it 😞

strawberryblue · 23/02/2024 22:40

@Wishlist99 @MrsAvocet I appreciate what your saying I'm not the most confident driver and I just feel like I need to feel like I'm in control of the car hence a small car

I’m 5ft3 and have a Toyota Aygo X - it’s the most comfortable seating position I’ve tried of any car! It has a raised ride height and is a bit bigger than a Fiat 500 with more boot space - the back is small but plenty of space in the front. I have it in the ginger beige and love it, would highly recommend

Also, it comes with loads of tech as standard and has a lot of cheap PCP deals on carwow!

I am getting a Peugeot e-208 next week!
Its a lovely car. Smallish but comfortable for passengers as well.

Yeees! I’ve had mine for six months, it’s brilliant. I’m 5’4” . Both my sons can get in it comfortably, they are both 6ft.
