OK, my childrern came home from school yesterday with a Christmas quiz. Of 100 questions, I only know the answer to about 40 so I would like some help please (and I hope there are no other parents from the school on Mumsnet!)

I can't post all 60 remaining questions here now, but wonder how well you will get on with these to start with:

  1. Where was Paddy Ashdown born?

  2. How does a marimba differ from a xylophone?

  3. Who composed the opera The Ice Break?

  4. What is Doris Day's full name?

  5. What is a cassata a type of?

Cheers Mumsnetters!

A Marimba isn't a glockenspiel, it is made of wood with resonating chambers beneath each bar. Xylophones are metal, with no resonating chamber.

Thanks, I am using google too now - didn't realise it was quite so easy. Even so, these are a bit hard to find the answers to:

  1. Which Godfrey was an England wicketkeeper?

2)The Edge is a member of which Supergroup?

  1. Which ex007 played the Scottish villain in the Avengers? Do you suppose it is Sean Connery or is it a trick question?

4)Who was the King of Swing?

Thanks for help. Might be back later with more.

And are you sure about The Edge being a member of U2 or were you answering the previous question? Incidentally, why is someone called The Edge FFS?
