Clacton

gillythekid · 10/01/2008 09:37

Blackpool is possibly the best example of the seedy rotten underbelly of the decaying seaside town that I've ever had the misfortune to visit.
New Brighton near my beloved home city of Liverpool has everything that Brighton has except the charm, nightlife, shopping, music/art scene etc....it's by the sea though and choc full of scallies (that's a scouse chav folks)

MaureenMLove · 10/01/2008 09:40

Oh, I forgot Margate! That's a pleasant little seaside town, with lots of 'interesting' people.

nappyaddict · 10/01/2008 09:54

oooh wow loads of places i've never even heard of here!!

cornsilk · 10/01/2008 09:57

I was going to put Blackppol too - it really is chav central. Lights designed by Laurence Llewelyn Bowen this year - that says it all.

FrannyandZooey · 10/01/2008 10:08

anywhere in the south of Essex

kittylouise · 10/01/2008 10:08

Most seaside towns are chavtastic (except those little pockets of middle-class aspiration where the beach huts cost £100k).

grew up in Ilfracombe, so know all about the dubious delights of all day breakfasts, sticks of rock, fish and chips, mr whippys, crazy golf and buckets and spades. However, Ilfracombe is actually scenically beautiful - in my mind ratholes towns like Minehead and Blackpool are far, far worse. And the worst of all WESTON-SUPER-MARE! And once made the mistake of going to pwhihelli (spelling) in north Wales - terrible.

FrannyandZooey · 10/01/2008 10:09

is this not a mildly offensive topic of conversation despite the disclaimer in the OP?

you're saying your sister is into some kind of chav tourism?

TsarChasm · 10/01/2008 10:11

Ilfracombe is pretty I had a holiday there once.

Actually we went camping nearby, but our tent blew away in a storm and we ended up bedraggled in a b&b in Ilfracombe. I've never been so glad to be 'indoors' in my life!

Take your children to any of these places for the day and they will love it, same as you did when you were little, donkey rides, rocks, paddling in mud, they love it
