Yes, in places, Weymouth does smell of chips. However, there's so many gorgeous places nearby in the rest of Dorset and i think you said before you'd only use it as a base. I'd go there.

harpsichordcarrier, I think we've all been to the chavtastic places we mention, otherwise how would we know what the're like.

There's a bit of the Chav in all of us I say

Weymouth rough?????

Mind you,I haven't been since 1985,it could have changed.Am I best not to persuade DH to go for a weekend away there then?He often has to listen to me go on about how I loved my childhood trips to Weymouth.

gillythekid: "Blackpool is possibly the best example of the seedy rotten underbelly of the decaying seaside town that I've ever had the misfortune to visit."

You want to try Morecambe, then. Like Blackpool without the quiet, understated charm.

I once had to work at Aintree Racecourse on Ladies' Day. I have never, ever, ever seen so many chavs in one place. The women were all fake take, silicone, em, bosoms, dresses which just about came down to their armpits and small feathers on their heads. The men all wore ill-fitting cheap suits. It puzzled me at first that they all had suits, but then I remembered. Liverpool. Scousers. They have them for court.

Trust me. If you want to explore the depths of human scumminess, it has to be Ladies' Day at Aintree.

Ubergeekian, you have painted such a wonderful picture.I can see it in my mind's eye.Ladies Day,hmmmmm.I'll not be able to drive past Aintree on the M6 without thinking of it now.

I was telling DH about this thread last night. His comment about Great Yarmouth may bear repeating. He said 'If that's 'Great' Yarmouth,I'd hate to see 'Shit' Yarmouth'.

Ohhh,he can be such a beaaatch,sometimes!

So can I. But my therapist is hopeful that within a few years the flashbacks will at least be manageable.

I seem to remember Hastings being pretty chavtastic when I was a teenager. Loved it - used to stay with my Grandma in the posher St Leonards on Sea and walk down bottle alley (nice) to get to the seedy pubs of an evening.

Rhyl. Its not the end of the world, but you can see it from there.
