Butlins in minehead is also an experience I never hope to repeat.

So is Brean Sands, LOL at "more pitbulls than you could shake a stick at" that describes Brean Sands to a T except the pitbull owners all drive 4X4s, have tattoos, a moustache that joins into a small beard on the chin and smoke 50 fags a day, (and that's just the women).

TBH I find whereever you go you get a slightly better quality of person if you go during school holidays.

Term time full of people who just seem to want to spend the 100 quid they saved going in term time on getting p*ssed.

Oh, and the complete and utter chav experience of a lifetime

FLORIDA FLYING FROM MANCHESTER AIRPORT DURING TERM TIME

thats lovely that one is.

bossykate · 10/01/2008 11:48

ooh bundle tell me more! especially as cp is so expensive.... for what it is....

kittylouise · 10/01/2008 11:49

lol nametaken flying to Florida

Imagining tanned ladies in juicy couture tracksuit rip-offs, tatooed bald geezers in donnay t-shirts and all talking at the top of their voice.

Like a flight to Lanzarote

nametaken · 10/01/2008 11:56

oh kittylouise you've been too

ingles2 · 10/01/2008 12:01

It's got to be Rhyl in North Wales,....Chavvy and depressing!

Lizzzombie · 10/01/2008 12:07

Salou in Spain.
But its only an hour or so from Barcelona on the train, and there are some lovely towns inbetween too. Plus Porta Ventura (sp?) is nearby too so there is lots and lots to do.
The actual town is full of English & Dutch people out on the pi*s. But, if you look hard enough there are some great spanish restaurants too.

Dead cheap holidays there too.

Tortington · 10/01/2008 12:08

towyn n.wales

wahat a shit hole

bundle · 10/01/2008 12:10

bk, it was dreadful

very poor food (only ate "out" once, took lots of nice food with us from waitrose) even in "restaurant" (as opposed to cafe type places)

saw child (aged about 7 or 8) fall into one of the ornamental ponds fully clothed and his family just laughed even when he was crying and didn't help him out

and the paths everywhere just take away any sense of individuality or freedom, just lots of sheep following each other around everywhere.

bits were nice though - the spa was good (even though I forgot my swimsuit and had to go nekkid - which got some funny looks )

OrmIrian · 10/01/2008 12:11

Minehead might be a little unglamorous on the actual sea frony but it's a beautiful area and you aren't far from Exmoor, Porlock, Linton and Linmouth. Probably wouldn't choose to holiday there but nearby definitely.

Now Weston s Mare is another matter. But I grew up near there and hated it. Also MIL, SIL and horrible ex-bil live there so I think it has an impact on my feelings. I associate it with long and boring duty visits with bored cooped up kids.

cornsilk · 10/01/2008 13:25

agree that food at center parcs is crap as are those horrible ball pool/ soft play things that my ds's kept wanting to go in. Apart from that we loved it there.

nappyaddict · 10/01/2008 14:23

what are british holiday parks like??

OP posts:
FuriousGeorge · 10/01/2008 18:29

Skegness
Ingoldmells
Margate
Great Yarmouth (worst of the four).

nappyaddict · 12/01/2008 11:50

Surfermum · 12/01/2008 11:53

Lol kittylouise. Good for you for insisting on a decent beach! I used to work in Cheltenham and I remember a girl there who was from Mauritius. She missed the beach so asked her dh to take her and he took her to Weston . She said she just stood there speechless.

nappyaddict · 14/01/2008 14:45

ok the places left for the dates we can go are camber, filey, eastbourne, dover, folkestone, poole, weymouth, rochester or chichester. what are these like?

OP posts:
nappyaddict · 14/01/2008 14:45

Nbg · 14/01/2008 14:57

Butlins at Bognor.

Dear lord that is a scary place.

Having said that the children love it.

FuriousGeorge · 14/01/2008 19:53

Hee hee! My friend is from the Philipines & when she first came here, the friends she was living with took her to the seaside. They took her to Great Yarmouth!Poor woman, what a culture shock. She got lost & took refuge in a Catholic church & luckily her friends found her there.

I don't think she ever went back there again.

LolaTheShowgirl · 20/01/2008 16:08

Bournemouth and Poole are so much more upmarket...no chavs round there!!! Used to live in Poole...it's very interesting and lots to do.

jeanjeannie · 20/01/2008 16:35

Ah, this thread is like revisitng my 70s childhood...so many memories. Skegness (aka 'Skeggy')is particularly chavlicious....as is Rhyl, Minehead and Southend. Folkestone is on my list of places to 'blow up' and I'll probably take Dover with it too

Weymouth and Chichester are really nice - I'd say even a bit posh. Nice places nearby too...if you do need to escape a charge of chavs!

yogimum · 20/01/2008 17:12

Sorry weymouth is very rough.

harpsichordcarrier · 20/01/2008 17:22
