I like Skeggie but if its the robins hood camp at ingoldmells i went and it was crap!

helsy · 09/01/2008 22:57

My personal opinion? I think Prestatyn and Rhyl are horrible. Southport's quite nice but the sea's a long way out. Never been to Skeggie.

Pixiefish · 09/01/2008 22:57

Been to Rhyl, Skeggie and Southport. All 3 are ok if you like Blackpool type places

Pixiefish · 09/01/2008 22:57

But have to say Southport is gorgeous main street. Did hae a fair which is closed. We used to go caravanning in Ormskirk and go for the day to Skeggie. And it has a Starbucks

Frizbe · 09/01/2008 22:58

Skeg is very chips and arcades, great if you like that sort of thing, is it skeg or ingoldmells (just down the road, 5million caravans, a few arcades, funfair, boot market and a butlins!

PeachesMcLean · 09/01/2008 22:58

Rhyl is grim. Nice places near there but not Rhyl itself. haven't been to Prestatyn for years, but remember it as not so vile. For some reason I think of Southport as really posh. My gran used to go for day trips there and would always talk about having a knickerbockerglory in a cafe there.

Pixiefish · 09/01/2008 22:59

Not skeggie- Southport i mean

Jennster · 09/01/2008 22:59

From Southport originally and been to Pontins. Was horrid 12 years ago. Maybe it's had a revamp since then. The site is actually in Ainsdale, a short train ride (very regular 10 mins every 15 mins) to Southport or 40 mins to Liverpool

Frizbe · 09/01/2008 22:59

Oh yes and you will struggle to get anything to eat bar chips/pizza and burgers in full holiday season, although I did spot a subway at ingoldmells last year, so at least salad kinda available.

Jennster · 09/01/2008 23:00

Fair reopened at Southport

nappyaddict · 09/01/2008 23:01

whispers erm i don't like chavvy type places to go on holiday? is that what they are. never been to blackpool either. what's that like?

10 mins from Formby on the train where there is the Red Squirrel Reserve at Formby Point which is lovely, and the sea reaches the beach there.

Jennster · 09/01/2008 23:02

Ooh God don't go to Blackpool it's dreadful.

Tinker · 09/01/2008 23:02

Avoid Rhyl

Frizbe · 09/01/2008 23:03

Skeg is fairly chavvy in places.....although it does have its better bits too (mainly the rest of lincolnshire is ok!)
Whispers Ingoldmells is Chav central

nappyaddict · 09/01/2008 23:04

tinker - what didn't you like about it?

OP posts:
Tinker · 09/01/2008 23:04

Prestatyn the town is quite nice really and Southport (the town) is also nice

PeachesMcLean · 09/01/2008 23:04

Blackpool's on a par with the others. though in fall season at least it's Tacky Par Excellence. There's no messing around with it there.
at the end of the day, they're cheap breaks in the Sun. If you're going to do it, you'll need to embrace your inner chav and go for a laugh. With a car so you can escape during the day.

nappyaddict · 09/01/2008 23:05

no car

Everything about Rhyl is horrible. I'm talking the town, have never been to holiday camps in these places but, apart from Skegness, have lived in all of these areas

ellenjames · 09/01/2008 23:05

dont go to skeg i live near there and its a dive and yes its chavvy and ingoldmells is even worse imo. Dont know about the other places though.

Frizbe · 09/01/2008 23:06

"Skegness"

unknownrebelbang · 09/01/2008 23:06

I quite liked Skeggie, but it had a massive fire which did quite a bit of damage last year.

Rhyl is grim.
Prestatyn slightly better.

I've always liked Southport, but the Pontins chalets are awful. Haven't been to Southport for a few years though.

Frizbe · 09/01/2008 23:07

lol ellenjames, to be fair the beach is nice!
If you're after a 'nice' resort Scarborough is ok, or most places on the South Coast aren't too Chavvy.

Jennster · 09/01/2008 23:08

Trains from the site in Southport to the centre of Southport or the other direction to Liverpool (fab place loads to do) are a 15 minute walk from the site and really reliable. They probably put on buses from the site???? Buses are pretty good too.
