left the sun paper out and these are the ones that have been marked by my sister. she's picking 4 and i'm picking 4 choices you see (we are going for 2 breaks.) what are they like? and don't feel you have to be pc if they are really horrible!!

i wouldn't go on holiday to southport i would go somewhere with a nice swimming neahc

nappyaddict · 09/01/2008 23:10

so southport's better than blackpool?

Rhyl struck me as one of the most disadvantaged communities I've seen in a while. And I live near quite a few around the South Wales Valleys. The derelict fair has recently closed in Rhyl. There's a mile of caravan sites to the east of the town, which are chips, beer, arcades, dodgy fairground rides and grimness. And then there's the Sun Centre Other places along the north wales coast can be nicer though.

Tinker · 09/01/2008 23:11

Of those 4 I'd go to Southport

ZippiBabes · 09/01/2008 23:11

southport is different from blackpool

the beach is ginormous

but the sea is miles away

and there is no swimming

Tinker · 09/01/2008 23:12

But you can get to Formby or Ainsdale easily where you can get into the sea

PeachesMcLean · 09/01/2008 23:12

LOL, that's what my dad always said "we went to Southport and couldn't find the sea"

ellenjames · 09/01/2008 23:13

honestly it is an awful place, i wouldnt wish it upon anyone, the sights you see when you haven't got your gun! i have worked in the lovely touristy areas when a student and i was so depressed please dont go there!!!

nappyaddict · 09/01/2008 23:19

ellenjames i'm confused now - where are you talkin about??

planning to go in april so doubt we will be doing any swimming in the sea!!

Would have to agree with Rhyl ...awful place!

FuriousGeorge · 09/01/2008 23:21

Hmmm,Skeg is the nearest bit of coast to us,so we sometimes go for a tacky day out, which can be fun if approached in the right frame of mind. However,I spent a weekend in a caravan park there last Easter & it was the worst trip I've ever been on.Never again.

It's a shame, becuse the Lincolnshire coast is beautiful,It's just that Skegness is tacky,tacky,tacky.DD1 rated our hellish weekend as the best holiday ever though.

ellenjames · 09/01/2008 23:21

sorry, still ranting about skegness!!

ZippiBabes · 09/01/2008 23:22

well have u transport if so i would go to rhyl if not southport

ZippiBabes · 09/01/2008 23:22

no idea what the sites are like tho

nappyaddict · 09/01/2008 23:23

not bothered by the sites ... will only use them as a place to sleep and eat brekkie!

if i can persuade my dad to come we will have a car if not we will be going by train.

dont go to rhyl!, its a horrible place, run down and grim imo..I live not a million miles away and I wouldnt go there if my life depended on it(eapologries to aenyone who lhives in trhyl)
Prestatyn isnt brill either...

there are some beauitiful beaches and places to visit in North Wales, but sadly the above are not 2 of them

SpacecadetOnADiet · 09/01/2008 23:24

that should have read..apologies to anyone who lives in Rhyl

ZippiBabes · 09/01/2008 23:25

ah but if its just a base n wales better than s'port

ZippiBabes · 09/01/2008 23:26

souithport is easily the most like a proper non seaside place

so the most well heled

nappyaddict · 09/01/2008 23:27

lol ... just spoken to my sister saying i had asked for advice on here and people didn't think they were the best places except for southport and some were a bit chav. she replied ... yes so what i like chavvy holidays!! so maybe i need to start a new thread lol. oh dear why did i agree to bringing her along!!

No, I have to be firm. Avoid Rhyl. If you do want to do North Wales (which is lovely) choose Prestatyn

discoverlife · 09/01/2008 23:30

I used to live near Rhyl and in Prestatyn about 20 years ago, it was awful then and its gone downhill since. They are awful, dire, depressing etc etc. Prestatyn may be a touch better but not much.

If you want a cheap base to explore North Wales then go for it but you arn't going to get much joy out of Rhyl or Prestatyn unless you are a beer swilling etc..

nappyaddict · 09/01/2008 23:30

ok so southport then prestatyn then rhyl then skeggie. only need to find 4 more places to suit her tastes now. i don't mind really. she'll be a godsend with ds and as long as there's a beach and a pool and a pub!!! we'll be happy.

OP posts:
ZippiBabes · 09/01/2008 23:30

ok i had forgotten about prestaytyn so knock rhyl off

nappyaddict · 09/01/2008 23:32

hmmm what's scarborough like?
