i remember when pontins in ainsdale opened and thinking what a weird place to find you were on holiday

Like I said earlier, Southport is a train ride from Southport town centre, Ainsdale village (a walk away) is ok, Formby Red Squirrel Reserve, Anthony Gormleys Statues on the beach further down the line (not sure which one not been) Liverpool City Centre (and it's Capital of Culture this year) where there is Albert Dock, Good shopping, Museums, Tate Art Gallery,

Pontins is a bit crap though

Been to Prestatyn, better than Rhyl but we didn't stay in th etown, went off for days out everyday , went all over Wales so was a good base?
If its the Haven site , its got a nice beach.

Skeg is definetly chavvy and heaving in summer with overweight chavs. However there are lovely, quiet beaches within a 10min drive of Skeg. Skeg has arcades, donkey rides, loads of stuff for kids who will probably love it. Also a seal sanctuary, quite a nice park near the centre of town. Parking is a nightmare.

Scarborough is nice! it still has a few arcades on the beach and the usual fish n chip bits, but because the town behind it has recieved quite a bit of funding and has the uni there too, it'd be a better choice than any of the others, plus you have the north york moors in driving distance too.
