As a relatively new Mumsnetter and Mum I am hooked on this website..I have posted twice on here about certain difficulties I was having and the advice given has been great. I am intrigued to know what you all do other than being Mums...what are your paid employments?

I have just started back to work 3 mornings as an accounts assistant for Volkswagen...anyone else...?

I'm a college lecturer. I teach IT and maths. I also attempted to be a SAHM but couldn't hack the pace, I've left that job to DH.

Joe1 · 16/10/2002 09:48

Im a SAHM, do bodyshop parties which will go back to sometime after Christmas unless I can find something I can do from home. Hope to do a degree or something when kids go to school, want to do Law but we will see.

bundle · 16/10/2002 09:54

I'm a journalist 3 days a week.

Marina · 16/10/2002 09:56

I'm a librarian in higher education. Although my job drives me nuts sometimes I really love working with students, especially our talented, focussed lot.

Viv · 16/10/2002 10:02

I am a freelance accountant / IT consultant, and currently work part time to fit hours around dd's schooling. Welcome to mumsnet.

Demented · 16/10/2002 10:21

I'm a SAHM, but DH has now put me on his payroll, I am still figuring out what I am supposed to be doing mind you!

PamT · 16/10/2002 10:29

I'm a SAHM with broadband so don't devote half as much time as I should to my dairy free chocolate business (all branded stuff not home made). I started it because I couldn't buy any chocolate for my milk intolerant DD.

OuiOui · 16/10/2002 10:31

I'm an Internet Marketing Manager - FT but work 3 days in office and 2 days at home. Gets pretty stressful with the nursery runs etc. Work to do something more local and leave the corporate world.

Joe1 - tell us more about the BodyShop parties - how old is your dd/ds?

GillW · 16/10/2002 10:32

I'm a full-time (and wishing I wasn't) IT bod - mostly doing internet/intranet stuff - so I get to spend most of my time talking to computers, not people.

Katherine · 16/10/2002 10:34

I did my degree in health psychology but then had my kids whilst doing my PhD. I'd have to travel miles to work now so these days I run a website from home so I can spend all my time with the kids.

Bozza · 16/10/2002 10:36

I work 3 days a week as an IT analyst.

Mo2 · 16/10/2002 10:41

I'm Head of Marketing for a healthcare company (but on maternity leave at the moment)

Fionn · 16/10/2002 10:43

I'm a SAHM (with broadband!) doing a Proofreading course by correspondence.

sis · 16/10/2002 10:53

I am an industrial relations adviser (give advice on employment matters).

Lucy123 · 16/10/2002 10:54

Oooo all these IT bods. I was beginning to think I was the only woman (never mind mother) in the industry. I'm a web developer, work from home freelance, mostly for a children's clothes website. Not ideal as I sometimes get calls in the middle of the night when there's a problem, but fun. Sick of being patronised by other people I have to deal with (not the clients, but the web hosting companies, software companies etc) - anyone else feel that?

bettys · 16/10/2002 11:07

I'm a television graphic designer & animator, working part-time. Would like to be a full-time artist though.

Dizzymummy · 16/10/2002 11:08

Snap Bozza!

prufrock · 16/10/2002 11:18

I work in investment management. I sometimes wish I was a SAHM, but every Monday I am very grateful to get back to my desk. This is a far easier and much better paid job

Scatterbrain · 16/10/2002 11:19

I'm a self-employed management consultant - have only been this since July though and really miss corporate life !

Am hoping to go back to my civil service life if they'll have me - will have to grovel though as I resigned after mat leave and went and worked in marketing for a small IT consultancy but they hadn't a clue and treated me like a secretary - which was a waste of everyone's time - so I left and set up on my own - plenty of work but lonely and cash-flow too unpredictable !

Generally fed-up and bitter about experience with IT company - especially after being head-hunted to join them ! Love mumsnet though - cheers me up no end !

florenceuk · 16/10/2002 13:35

I'm a civil servant (work part-time) - is this the most boring job listed here????

leander · 16/10/2002 13:35

I,m not a high flyer like most of you other mums,I work in customer service ,Its not a bad job and the hours suit.I work Monday-Friday 5pm-10pm.

Sid · 16/10/2002 13:43

I'm a market development analyst, currently on maternity leave with my 3rd child and possibly about to be made redundant -can't work out at the moment whether this is a good thing or not.
