What has happened to UKparents

Anyone know what has happened to UKParents - where am I going to sell my nappies now?

I know they've had a lot of problems lately. The new look site was a nightmare to me - but they have suddenly just gone!

I know they were "the other site" and perhaps its a bit tactless to raise this hear but is always sad to see something go - and it was THE BEST place to sell nappies!

God forbid anything like that should happen to mumsnet.

as for UKP - never been there!

Demented · 06/11/2004 17:07

Oh, thanks Pops didn't realise that, thought when they said and email I would have to grovel. I did post once but didn't really find that the site had the same addictive quality as MN!

CHRIZ · 06/11/2004 17:10

hi had that email too

use to go on there in the past not much though

popsycal · 06/11/2004 20:19

no worries demented!

I just want to add (as someone who used to visit UKP and now visits some other sites too), how refreshing it is to see this discussed here so openly without anyone frmo Mumsnet stepping in and telling us not to mention other sites. This has happened on a couple of other sites in the last few days when people have tried to discuss what happened to UKP. And NO WAY would anyone be allowed to give out a web address to another parenting site - even if they offer something different like is being discussed here with selling nappies.

How lovely that this community and those that manage it are secure enough to realise that by discussing these things we are all not going to suddennly up and leave. Well done!

MissHoolie · 07/11/2004 13:37

Havn't come across any sites to censor links to other sites. Freedom of speech and all that.

JulieF · 07/11/2004 14:26

If you were to mention mumsnet on either Babyworld or Babycentre then your post would be removed.

They have now even started removing links to sites such as netmums (becasue we now have sponsorship even though it is a voluntary organisation) and Tumbletots (because they have a discussion board)

Ridiculous

MissHoolie · 07/11/2004 14:32

Don't visit either of those sites. MN is often mentioned on MO and those posts are never removed.

Hulababy · 07/11/2004 16:40

JulieF - I also had a post removed from BabyWorld, because I piut a link to TumbleTots website. Someone had asked how to find out about local classes, so I simply directed her to the website. I find it very very sad I very rarely bother with BW now.

I use two parenting websites, daily(!) - MN and MO. Love both, and for different reasons. I'd be sad if either weren't around for me.

Hulababy · 07/11/2004 16:41

MissHoolie - try RaisingKids if you want to see a site censoring lnks to other websites too! That's how I found Mumsnet, nearly two years ago. Someone put a link to here, and all hell let loose on RK site as a result. The kind of "How dare you use another site" kind of rubbish. I just thought "get a life" and came over to look at MN. Not been back to RK!

Demented · 07/11/2004 22:23

IlanaK MN knows we'll be back!

SecondhandRose · 08/11/2004 17:51

Don't know how UKP is going to come back as the other company have hijacked the site. Hope they do as I regularly use both as they are very different.

fio2 · 08/11/2004 17:57

I had that e-mail too off ukp. I could never read replies on there for some reason! and couldnt ever remember my password. was very different to MN, cant compare the two really

SecondhandRose · 12/11/2004 20:38

I am pleased to report that UK Parents is back on line. It's hijackers have gone.

zebra · 12/11/2004 20:46

Thanks 2nd-hand-R, what a bizarre story! I had just sent in a birth story to UKP just before they went down, and I was seriously wondering what would happen to it.
