What has happened to UKparents

Anyone know what has happened to UKParents - where am I going to sell my nappies now?

I know they've had a lot of problems lately. The new look site was a nightmare to me - but they have suddenly just gone!

I know they were "the other site" and perhaps its a bit tactless to raise this hear but is always sad to see something go - and it was THE BEST place to sell nappies!

God forbid anything like that should happen to mumsnet.

I'm trying to sell some right now...Maybe we could have a nappy sale to raise funds for MN?
Says she who hasn't paid any subs this year.

Justine (mumsnet) · 04/11/2004 20:55

On the subject of buying and selling - can I ask would it work better to have a whole new topic devoted just to buying and selling in which we list the seperate categories (like cloth nappies etc) or was there something more to the UKP one that you'd like?

lou33 · 04/11/2004 20:56

prove me wrong justine why don't you!

zebra · 04/11/2004 20:57

There is a notice board on MN, which is really more appropriate than the usual thread format in Talk, for these types of things.

MilkyWay · 04/11/2004 20:58

Justine, Don't know the answer to your specific question, but the only thought that occurs to me is that the new style of advertising "for sale" adverts on mumsnet means that the ads stay on forever. Can you not time limit them like you did previously?

lou33 · 04/11/2004 21:00

Noticeboard is gone Zebra, replaced by the for sale ads on talk.

Justine (mumsnet) · 04/11/2004 21:01

Not any more - we ditched it because we got oodles of people posting on it thinking it was the discussion boards - despite fact that it was called classified... we could resurrect it but why, of interest, could it not work on talk if we had seperate categories?
(Lou - I told you, I'm a serial lurker )

zebra · 04/11/2004 21:01

Ah, then. I didn't really think abougt it, Lou. But some time of expiry on the notices wouldmake sense.

MilkyWay · 04/11/2004 21:02

Think separate categories would be better and easier to search

Justine (mumsnet) · 04/11/2004 21:03

Yes we could limit ads time wise without a problem - ahhh - it's dawning on me now (bit slow me) - the long list and things looking out of date is offputting?

lou33 · 04/11/2004 21:04

Not as much as me justine

Justine (mumsnet) · 04/11/2004 21:04

True!

MilkyWay · 04/11/2004 21:06

Yep - not very clear is it Justine?

zebra · 04/11/2004 21:06

Would be really nifty if we could "remove" ads ourselves when the item has sold, as well.

lou33 · 04/11/2004 21:07

don't know how I will cope being away for so long

zebra · 04/11/2004 21:08

Besides lay-out someone below suggested we would pay a fee to register as a seller here -- how could that be structured? Bad idea?

misdee · 04/11/2004 21:10

ok all you vlothies. i need newborn size nappies for baby#3. would like a selection, maybe one of each type before i commit to one particular make. am looking at tots bots, motherease one size, AIO, stuffable nappies etc etc. oh and ellas house nappies (think thats what they were called). and wraps. oh and cotton bottoms. i wont really be able to spalsh out till after xmas so if any one is willing to help me, then CAT me. i'll be asking after xmas as well.

zebra, did u get my email?

Justine (mumsnet) · 04/11/2004 21:12

Yeh Lou, you may as well cancel!

Don't know the answer to the self-removal question - will check out with the Techster - could just add a post saying gone or closed or summit.

May also be something in paying to sell but UKP didn't charge did they? Maybe that's why they're no more, though ...

Any more thoughts/ preferences/ ideas - keep em coming.

SenoraPostrophe · 04/11/2004 21:12

defo to the time limit!

I have nappies to sell too. Maybe I'll wait until after the rush.

Separate categories would give the ads more prominence in search engines too, Justine, especially if you write a bit of blurb for each cat with links to the user review pages.

If it was my site I'd be tempted to charge a fee too, but that may put people off (you can advertise nappies on the nappy lady site for nothing can't you?). Maybe not. But the category pages would be good additional pages for paid sponsor ads or something.

It's late and I'm rambling. please tell me if I'm teaching my grandmother to suck eggs. And what does that mean anyway?

SenoraPostrophe · 04/11/2004 21:13

PS time limit also required in job ads. Still getting responses to mine despite the big "please don't respond to this ad" post at the top.

lou33 · 04/11/2004 21:14

Maybe Mn could pay me to be a roving reporter?

Justine (mumsnet) · 04/11/2004 21:21

Would a fiver cover it?

Justine (mumsnet) · 04/11/2004 21:23

Time limit on jobs and small bus ads is currently 90 days - maybe should be less - does 30 days sound about right for buying and selling?

lou33 · 04/11/2004 21:25

Can I sleep on it?

SenoraPostrophe · 04/11/2004 21:28

how about a choice (15 days/30 days/90 days)?

fees: think it should be a fiver for items over, say, £30. Otherwise it's just not worth it for the seller.
