My cousin gets married at the end of October in Las Vegas and then they are having a reception here on 6th November.

I want to look fab, I want people to look and think 'doesn't she look great' e.t.c.
Yes I know it does sound very vain but I am sick of goiung to things like this and always regretting what I wore, how i did my hair e.t.c. and so I am determined to impress.

Firstly I need to lose a stone in weight. I have been watching what i eat for the past few weeks and have now got an exercise dvd too.

I need to decide what to do with my hair

I need to find an outfit that will look great but that I am comfortable in

I need to sort my makeup out.

So anyone up for the challenge ???

Oh this all has to be done as cheaply as poss by the way

Right. I'm no use on make up. But let's see what we can do. Weightwise is tbh the least important - you get everything else right, you will look so good that you weight won't matter. Now hair - what sort of hair do you have? The cheapest thing to do I think would be a wash and blow dry straight/curly whichever suits your hair best just before the reception. Is the reception going to be an evening do or afternoon sit down meal?

It's an evening do 7pm i think.

O.k I am 5'3, weigh 9 stone and have brown eyes and brown shoulder lenght dead straight hair.

What colour do you think for my outfit ?? I'm tempted to go with black as it is slimming and usually looks o.k on most people.

Am thinking of having a spray tan done too, oh and my nails as they are terrible.

Oooh good tips Sue thanks

I do walk about 1.5 hours a day what with going backwards and forwards to school.

Ask family and mates when they thought you were really looking great and why?

get details of your local hair/beauty therapy college and go along there. Get a make-up lesson/makeover, and get them to try lots of different do's on your hair. Partly because cheap, but also because i find it really hard to tell the department store viragos (apologies to any on here) that I don't want to buy their stuff, whereas I could be strong with an 17 year old.

What's your figure like nutcracker? If you're really overweight, then I'd say a corset - happy to lend you mine. I got mine after tipping the velvet was on.

acnebride · 12/09/2004 17:56

posts crossed! you sound bodacious - a corset would definitely be something to try - mine is for size 18 so much too large for you but might be worth having a go? it's black satin - am i tempting you??

MummyToSteven · 12/09/2004 18:08

nutty you really, really don;t sound underweight, and with so little to play with, i think you would find it hard to lose a stone anyway- tho no harm in cutting out choccies/crisps/cakes anyway. black trousers and a funky top? if you go for a sleeveless top that will show the spray tan off nicely you can't go wrong with that for an evening do. and try loads and loads on till you find the perfect ones.

coddychops · 12/09/2004 18:11

I dd o dark brown nutty or purple
Ithinkblack can look bad if you save money on cheaper fabris andalso can look dull and ageing

coddychops · 12/09/2004 18:16

theese warp dresses are really in
this has a pink version

coddychops · 12/09/2004 18:20

warp dresses!
or you could dot he topleft of htese ideas

motherinferior · 12/09/2004 18:43

Cleavage never goes amiss, I find

motherinferior · 12/09/2004 18:44

(although I quite like the idea of a Warp Dress, which presumably has a slightly pervy/kinky air about it)

ebbie22 · 12/09/2004 19:12

I have a lovely light blue dress if you want to borrow it?I too am 9 stone and a 5ft 4...where do you live?I am in Bedfordshire...

nutcracker · 12/09/2004 19:16

Oooh loads of ideas, thanks.

Not keen on the dress Coddy but that tops lovely.

I definatly don't suffer from a shortage of clevage so no probs there

I would like to wear a dress for a change unless I was to find a really stunning top and trousers.

Great ideas so far, keep them coming

nutcracker · 12/09/2004 19:29

NC - This is gorgeous. Really sexy, but not tarty. I may buy one myself for my 30th next month. Don't know if £30 is too much. I love this

nutcracker · 12/09/2004 19:35

Very classy nc. I am sure you would look lovely in that. Have you got any hair straighteners as I think polker straight hair always looks gorgeous!

nutcracker · 12/09/2004 19:55

I really like this too but think that a) i may not have the figure for it and b)i'm too old for it

I really love that. It is really pretty and very "in" at the moment. You are definitely not too old, far from it. Go for it while you are still young enough and by the sounds of it you definitely have the figure for it. The sandals on that page were lovely as well. I must go to River Island, there jeans are really nice, even nicer than top shop!
