lilibet · 02/10/2004 09:51

Wow - that's lovely - stylish is right!!

lilibet · 02/10/2004 09:52

I posted yesterday about getting a buyer between changing estate agents. My buyer has just pulled out again They couldn't get the mortgage. This is the third time we've had a buyer offering us the asking price and the third time they have pulled out. The first one's decided to move elsewhere, the second one's couldn't get a mortgage and now the same again. I get so excited when we get an offer and then devasted when they pull out. I can't believe this has happened to us three times now. Why can't people check they have finance in place before making an offer . I don't think I can take much more of this. I think I will take every offer we get now with a pinch of salt until survey has been done. Good luck to everyone else who's selling. I'll put a link to my house when the new agents put it on their website for you to have a nosey at

Hulababy · 02/10/2004 11:26

Souns very stressful bonniej

lilibet - house looks nice. Rooms look good size. And so pretty on the outside Have you had any feedback from viewers? We always try to get our estate agents to follow up viewers to find out their thoughts.

JanH · 02/10/2004 11:34

lilibet, I just looked at DP's, it does look lovely!

FWIW though, Ann Maurice always says put in a double bed where there is space, as there is in 2nd bedroom, and put a bed in an "office" too, to show that it's possible. As it is laid out atm it looks like it's for only 3 people IYSWIM!

JanH · 02/10/2004 11:39

Also, kitchen flooring and wallpaper round table is a bit jazzy? Any chance you could slap paint over paper and do a quick refloor - same flooring right through instead of separate bit for dining area?

JoolsToo · 02/10/2004 11:42

Lillibet - can't fault it really - I do think buyers have too high expectations these days. The only thing I would do to yours (and its a small thing and its cos I don't like them) is take the bath mat things out - for one thing it'll make the floor space look bigger - quite honestly though I don't see how bath mats would be a deal breaker! It looks a fab house at a fab price to me!

PS - where is the original poster on this discussion?

JoolsToo · 02/10/2004 11:45

hulababy - can't see why you'd have problems selling yours either!

My dd has a beautiful house too and is having problems getting viewers nevermind buyers! Must be just the market at the mo.

Good luck all!

JoolsToo · 02/10/2004 11:46

janh - know what you mean - but you can go on forever and still SOMEONE won't like it. It's a very stressful thing this house selling business!

PicadillyCircus · 02/10/2004 11:52

Our house has been on the market for 4 weeks now and although we're getting viewings, no offers

Too stressful - we want to move house...

JanH · 02/10/2004 11:56

Jools, we have been in our house 21 years and plan never to move because of the potential horrors of the whole situation!

emmatmg · 02/10/2004 11:57

Just lurking on here, feeling very envious.

Dh went for a job in Gloucester but we've heard nothing so it looks like our move will not be happening.

Desparately want some space around me, gutted it's not going to happen for ages.

Your place is lovely Hula.

Hulababy · 02/10/2004 12:08

I think the market is just slow at the moment

And I have a naturally impatient nature when it comes to things like this. Our last house (sold it nearly 3 years ago) sold within the first week for more than asking price. This has been on market since August and we have had 6 viewers. One was very interested but he had an offer in elsewhere which was accepted same day as seeing ours. And one viewer came "to see what a city pad looked like" - argh!

Oh well, we shall see. Fingers crossed for everyone that this market picks up soon. DH says after Christmas - spring is the best season for house selling.

bonniej · 02/10/2004 12:52

I wanted to be in my new place for Christmas

muddaofsuburbia · 02/10/2004 13:13

Our house has been on the market since June and we've only had 9 viewers.

We're in the SE - 20 mins commute to Euston, our only downfall is the area is not the most salubrious in the world. But that does mean we're cheap, cheap, cheap!

We're moving backl to Scotland anyway in about 10 days time , so the house will have to sell empty and we'll have to pay 2 mortgages for a while. Financially things will get incredibly tight, but there's not much choice in the matter. Plus I'm desperate to get into our lovely new house.

Our agent has said that anything selling for above £180,000 is getting no viewings and no interest, but anything below that is moving along fine, so we're not getting hassled anymore to drop the price.

noddy5 · 02/10/2004 14:43

We put our flat in the market Sept 2003 and moved into our new house Aug 2004!An absolute nightmare with 3 lots pulling out Having said that I love this house so much I'll not be moving for a while.Prices are really dropping here too but still plenty of sold signs around so hang in there

Skate · 03/10/2004 21:07

Muddaofsuburbia - we are just like you!!

We've had house on market since end of June and had only 3 viewers .

However, we are moving into our new house in January anyway so, like you, will have 2 mortgages and will be financially very tight. We need to move though as we need the space now we have a 3rd ds and we need to get ds1's name down for the school he'll be starting next Sept - therefore we need to be in our new address in the new year (they check residences really carefully as school is so popular).

Also a bit concerned about selling the house empty (which it has to be doesn't it to avoid council tax), but on the other hand it will hopefully look massive!! I think we'll just get all the carpets cleaned so it looks like new. At least when (if ) we get a viewer, I can just pop round and do a quick tidy rather than having 3 kids in house to clear up after in a rush!!

Our new house is only a mile or two down the road and we are, conveniently, buying it from my parents. It LOVELY and I can't wait to move!!!

I think I'm banking on a new year sale now - please GOD.
