Cat really not well off to the vets soon... :-(

Poor little Esme has suddenly gone downhill am worried this is the end... lost lots of weight and over past two days has not wanted to be on our laps or sleep on the bed where she ALWAYS sleeps, hiding away looking bloody miserable, when she does drink she's vomiting up froth. And this am she peed where she was sitting which she never does.

My mother had to have one of her cats put down a fortnight ago, am worried vet will take one look at her and say she's so ill...

edam

when are you going to the vet?

sweetmonkey · 03/05/2007 09:13

I dont really know what to say but hope the vet can do something for your little one

edam · 03/05/2007 09:36

11.30. Rang them when they opened at 9 and that's the earliest they could do.

She's a moggie and only about 11 (previous owner wasn't sure of her exact age) so she's not really elderly...

Thanks for your kind thoughts, been trying to distract myself by cleaning the mould in the dispenser drawer of the washing machine!

fingers crossed edam.

edam · 03/05/2007 09:58

Thanks for kind thoughts, wish me luck with persuading her into the cat carrier on my own. If she doesn't protest I'll know she's really ill...

Oh Edam.

foxinsocks · 03/05/2007 09:59

oh, had forgotten about the trauma of getting cats into those things! hope she puts up a bit of a fight for you.

poor esme - I really hope it's something fixable.

MamaG · 03/05/2007 10:00

Sorry to hera this edam

edam · 03/05/2007 10:03

Poor dh was in tears this am. He even cooked her a fishfinger which she has ignored (her favourite treat, sans breadcrumbs).

poor cat

lucykate · 03/05/2007 14:04

oh no, any idea what was wrong with her?

SherlockLGJ · 03/05/2007 14:04

Oh Edam,

Go and have a good cry it will take a few days to get used to the idea.

But you did the right thing, it would have been cruel to let her linger.

Saturn74 · 03/05/2007 14:04

oh no!
So sorry for you all, edam.

LilRedWG · 03/05/2007 14:05

Edam, its always hard having to put down an animal, I can sympathise with your feelings. The one thing I could soothe myself with was the fact that the cat (in our case cancer) had a royal life.

misdee · 03/05/2007 14:17

oh poor puddytat and poor you and your familt edam so so sad when a family pet has to be let go

Jomist · 03/05/2007 14:20

for you x

edam · 03/05/2007 14:20

I just don't know whether we should have sought vet's attention earlier. He said this sort of kidney failure can come on very quickly and it's true that she's only been noticeably very ill last night and this morning. But I can't help feeling that we've let her down. Vet saw her just before Easter for her eczema though so presumably she was OK then...

Edam

Our cat was very old for a long time, but when her kidneys started to fail it was very very quick. You would have noticed and so would the vet.
