Poor little Esme has suddenly gone downhill am worried this is the end... lost lots of weight and over past two days has not wanted to be on our laps or sleep on the bed where she ALWAYS sleeps, hiding away looking bloody miserable, when she does drink she's vomiting up froth. And this am she peed where she was sitting which she never does.

My mother had to have one of her cats put down a fortnight ago, am worried vet will take one look at her and say she's so ill...

Bless you Fio and sorry about your rabbit - isn't nine a tremendous age for a rabbit?!

I would never think its "only" a cat! Even if I didn;t have one - you spend years of your life with them and they have personalities, you'd have to have a heart of stone not to get attached to them.

If you're ever in the market for a dog - you can get hypoallergenic poodles which are lovely (and you don't have to clip them like topiary). I met a miniture one they other month and thought I'd hate it but it was really lovely. Owned by a family with an asthmatic little boy

Thanks Sue but I'm really a cat person, couldn't be doing with a dog (esp. not a poodle, sorry)! Dogs don't sit on your lap and purr. I wasn't planning on rushing out and buying a replacement anyway, wouldn't feel right, she wasn't a consumer durable, she was Esme, IYKWIM.

Oh Edam I am so sorry - had a little cry about poor Esme!

This is too soon to be thinking about cats but our neighbours used to have a Devon Rex - it was a funny little thing. Very sweet and wanted cuddles but it had no fur! It did look strange but you got used to it.

edam · 04/05/2007 23:01

Cazzybabs, that is very sweet of you. I did toy with a Rex during the long years of trying to persuade dh that his asthma wasn't really that bad, and look, aren't cats lovely?! But then he fell in love with Esme...

(she was just a lovely little black moggie)

Moggies are the best though! It is so funny how you remember all your cats and their different traits. We used to have a black and white moggy called Holly who loved cheese and as soon as she heard the rustling of the plastic bags they came in would come running and calling for some. And we had a big fat moggy who would dribble all the time! Now we have 2 black and white cats - I shy girl and 1 big confident boy.

I hope you have lots of lovely photos and can look back and remember all the lovely cuddles you had with her.

Just one decent pic - hard to capture a black cat very well, they tend to merge into the background! Bless her, she just loved sitting on my lap - tested her once to see how long she'd stay there and eventually had to give up after two hours because I needed the loo.

Oh bless her - she must have really loved you.

I'm very sorry Edam, it is always so hard to lose a pet. My sympathys

Sad

She was happy and loved and you had her in your lives edam, I'm so sorry she died .
We don't have any pets because I don't think I could cope with their illness and death. Which is rather selfish of me, and I salute everyone on this thread who gives their children the years of happiness of having a pet

edam · 05/05/2007 13:29

Thank you everyone, you've all been so kind and it has really helped just to witter on endlessly.

Marina, bless you! Have you considered stick insects? I think it would be hard to get so attached to them that you grieve for deceased sticky...
