Maida Vale. Just to make it difficult.

OP posts:

As we have moved to the East Coast of Scotland we will have to dodge the annual invasion from down south of those attending the Fringe, Book Festival and the other events in Edinburgh. So a move across the Forth to Dunfermline for the night it is.

Mind you, some of those in the capital city do play the game of games.

MaudAndOtherPoems · 15/08/2018 22:30

How delightful to see you, DementedMa. Shall we adjourn to

Kirkcaldy?

ForalltheSaints · 16/08/2018 18:24

I think that although we have missed the glorious Twelfth we can visit parts of Scotland with historical connections and so off to Stirling for the castle and that pub that serves Belhaven whose name I cannot remember.

IrenetheQuaint · 16/08/2018 18:41

Well, this is bringing back the memories. But I can't bear the Central Belt - for reasons connected to the 1989 Kilmarnock Congress - so like Bonnie Prince Charlie I will flee to the Isles via

Oban

dementedma · 16/08/2018 20:06

gosh, the Kilmarnock congress - how brave of you to mention it irene
We will have Andrew here in no time to defend his reputation and protest his innocence. Again.
From Oban, cross country to inverness

ForalltheSaints · 16/08/2018 20:49

I missed the Kilmarnock Congress as I was visiting an elderly relative, who probably was au fait with the game of games but would never let on.

In her memory I go to Nairn where her cousin lived for a while.

MaudAndOtherPoems · 16/08/2018 23:31

Andrew has been uncharacteristically quiet for some time. I fear that the supposedly red hot lawyer he had engaged was not so hot after all and so the restraining order and super-injunction are back in force. Anyway, it’s heartening that Irene has heard the siren call of the game of games and has rejoined us . Let us progress to

Leuchars

dementedma · 17/08/2018 07:50

Ah, Leuchars! The temporary residence of so many chaps in uniform and the home of so many permanent memories. I remember a very tight squeeze in the tunnel under the wire to a game in the Mess. The Air Commodore played a blinder forcing the Group Captain to undertake such an audacious forfeit it is still talked about in hushed tones whenever one spots the scars on the flagpole. His scars healed in time and he went on to have a very successful second career as a drag artist. I fear it is time we return to the Metropolis so I play a simple Southern Cross to take us south via North Berwick

ForalltheSaints · 17/08/2018 18:00

Leuchars always seems an incomplete end to a journey since the axe of Dr Beeching fell. Ot temporary as dementedma infers. I come from a naval family so cannot comment about Group Captains.

Time to move south and via the Durham Coast line, to stop at the place of the monkey hangers, Hartlepool.

IrenetheQuaint · 17/08/2018 21:09

Yes, I wonder where @Andrewofgg is. I'm sure I saw his characteristic polka-dot overalls vanishing round a corner in Whitehall the other day.

In the meantime, let's gambol to

Darlington

MaudAndOtherPoems · 17/08/2018 21:57

Overalls? That’s the Givenchy ballgown he wore to the passing-out (in every sense) parade in Lucknow in ‘52. Caused quite a stir, as I remember, because the Secretary-General had just been rusticated for playing Arc de Triomphe and everyone was a little on edge.

Didcot Parkway

ForalltheSaints · 18/08/2018 07:09

Somewhere along Brunel's line is always a place with gentle curves and a view of the countryside. Often a place where too much of some clear liquids with ice cubes can contribute to passing out and that does cause a problem when playing the game of games. I appreciate that we can wait a few days between moves (none of this one day nonsense that some games have), but a few months is too much I think.

Moving towards central London I stop off at Southall

ForalltheSaints · 01/09/2018 14:58

Apparently Crossrail is to be delayed by about nine months. We better not wait that long, so I move to Paddington.

MaudAndOtherPoems · 02/09/2018 10:23

Gosh! Play is getting sluggish. But I know just the thing to pep us up (it always works for the Colonel). A trip to

Penge West

ForalltheSaints · 03/09/2018 19:34

Making use of the London Overground rule to get us to Clapham High Street.

I hope the Colonel is OK.

ForalltheSaints · 10/09/2018 18:37

Moving after a week to West Brompton

ForalltheSaints · 05/10/2018 20:02

A month has lapsed since anyone else played this game.

So I sneak past Earls Court, up the Piccadilly line to Leicester Square and up the Northern line to Mornington Crescent!!

And declare myself the winner.

IrenetheQuaint · 05/10/2018 20:06

Oh well done Saints! Very classy.

MoreCheerfulMonica · 05/11/2018 15:26

Now that we have all had a rest and have been able to recharge our little grey cells, as dear Hercule observed, I think it may be time to start a new game ... prepare yourselves for the challenge!
