The talk of Pernod reminds me of my youthful drinking days, the Lebanese (? I think) Middle East version, arak.

Good grief, that stuff was lethal. You'd get up the next day, wobbily, drink a glass of water and be drunk again Just remembered the windows, I was supposed to be cleaning them. But I didn't touch them, just waved a cloth in their direction - boss not impressed, I didn't realise

Then there was my time in Eastern Europe and the good old CCCP/USSR. A foul lethal drink called Spiritus which was oh blimey rough.

So I feel all virtuous this morning as I'm off to work with a new box of fennel tea. Not the one with caraway seeds though, don't want to overdo things

I've never been able to do Pernod etc really. But depth charges remind me of a drink called Dr Pepper. Shot of Amaretto dropped into a pint of beer that had been topped up with a splash of Coke. You could top the amaretto shot with Bacardi 151 (the paintstripper one) and light it on fire if you wanted. Tasted just like.... Dr Pepper

I may not have had my chemo today but I still had to go grocery shopping.

On the way I called into the vet to make an appointment for Maisie to have a check-up. It's booked for 9.30 am tomorrow. She definitely needs her claws clipped and I'm a bit worried about her. I've tried to give her and Tinkerbelle time to come to a new understanding after Gemma's passing. I'm fairly sure Maisie is now almost totally deaf. She also spends A LOT of time "talking". When she's not talking she sits on the arm of my chair (shades of Gemma) or on my lap. I hope it's nothing more serious than symptoms of old age but it wouldn't be fair to her not to make sure she's otherwise OK. Healthy kitty cat vibes would be much appreciated.

DD1 wants a dog but DD2 is adamant that we should, no, NEED to get a cat. I am pretty sure my old cat allergy has resolved itself so it's not out of the question.

I'm not having any more pets. We had a lovely dog who'd been mistreated by previous owners and used to stare at the wall. Still remember when he finally started to come to me to be stroked

And flipping hell when he died. I was pg with FidGirl. FidBoy1 was turning 5 and while we were making little cakes for his kindergarten we were sobbing into the cake mixture. Prob made it less dry Am not the world's best baker.

Then there was a hamster and finally FidGirl's gerbil years. And more tears.

I'm up at this ungodly hour cos I have a translation to avoid. Hence MN and wittering.

fid my dog died last year when I was pregnant with DS2. (He died the day princess Charlotte was born) I miss him. That's why we got George cat. We missed having a pet, but I couldn't have another dog as I wouldn't have been able to look after it with my mobility issues.

How on earth do you get ear drops into a cat?
