going downstairs in a min to start getting stuff ready for work/nursery tomorrow.

KBear · 03/09/2006 18:26

Went swimming with the dcs for two hours first thing.

Spent rest of day sorting out this tip of a house - emptying bags full of tut which have been ferried back and forth to my mum's when she has the kids while I'm at work - and general clearing up and cleaning.

I have had a glass of wine and a chinny with mate who popped in earlier.

I have washed coats and anything else not pinned down - ooh what a lovely day for drying (sound like my Nan!).

I have made a chicken curry.

I have spent 10 mins on here.

I am about to ship my two off upstairs for a bath while I put away said washing.

I will collapse in heap.

Moondog:

Fry onions, celery, mushrooms, etc. Rehydrate some dried ceps and some sun dried toms. Add barley (soak overnight first and add the water too) and some strong stock or a stock cube, plus the mushroom water, simmer for about 40 mins until tender. You can serve as is, or add milk and cornflour to make a more gloopy, creamy sort of dish. Lots of black pepper and parmesan cheese to taste - we also love to eat it with peas for some reason - the texture, I think.

This is the posh version, when proper skint we have it without the dried mushrooms or tomatoes, and with cheddar instead of parmesan.

FrannyandZooey · 03/09/2006 19:37

Barley is also fab in a sort of pilaff, served with spices like cumin, with apricots and carrots and chickpeas, but I lost the recipe for that one when I had only cooked it once and I never could remember how to get it so nice.
