Pimms, My DS was a standby on a photoshoot recently and sorry to say he wasn't used and it was VERY boring!!! Probably slightly different as DS is only little but even when a couple of the other babies started playing up they still did't use him!! I personally wouldn't do it again! Plus did you say you would have to take DD???

tavalana · 05/09/2006 14:00

2ManyPimms - have you asked your ds if he wants to do it? if i were in your place and i explained to my ds about the wait and the prospect of not being used i dont think he'd want to do it. if your ds really wants it then go for it its experience and they might still use him. my ds3 has done standby once and ended up being used but wasnt photographic.

mrratty · 05/09/2006 14:39

2ManyPimms - I just realised you said your DD would also have to take a day off school. I wouldn't do it in that case as I don't think I would want my other child to have a day off, it wouldn't feel right even for a 'proper' job.

ellesmum · 05/09/2006 14:55

sounds like a difficult decision 2manypimms, good luck with your decision

strawberrymilkshake · 05/09/2006 15:26

Hi all, personally if they were for stand in i dont think i would take dd out of school, not unless i knew she def had the job. I have also got to take dd out of school thursday for video shoot, but phoned school today to get the to email a letter to the concil that was at 9 this morning, i rang them at 2 and they still hadnt emailed the letter over so im begining to panic now. Good luck with what you decide to do.

lindac · 05/09/2006 15:33

Hi all
i was wondering if anybody with kids london was doing the cm.net shoot, my dd has been asked to do it friday and im wondering should i tell kl as she has only been with them a couple of weeks and hasnt had any thing come up for her yet. But with kl being sole rep, even if this jobs not paid should i inform them of it. I am a bit confussed and dont want to p...them of as she is new with them
sorry if you have already had this conversation
Thanx x

littlemadam · 05/09/2006 16:10

How are you getting on Pimms?? What a dilemma!! When is the shoot...is it in the first couple of weeks? Theres lots of really good advice here, we've not been in the game long, but think I would lean towards not going, also might put DS off if it's really boring!!

Cowmad, not sure of any in Birmingham, try childmodelling.net, they have lots of agencies. We go to London though, is there a quick train?

Tavlana, how did it go with Junior, must have been a different shoot! Did DS get some fabby outfits?

I could do with another weeks holiday, why oh why do I have eight weeks to get everything ready for school, and leave it all till the last two days!!!! I don't know how you guys with three (or four!!)children manage!!

mythumbelinas · 05/09/2006 16:20

lindac, mine are with KL, but i didn't apply to cm.net .. sorry no help at all!!

littlemadam, i got school stuff over and done with during the first 2 weeks off. I knew if i didn't do it then i'd procrastinate .. and be sorry later.
dd1 is back to school tomorrow 8:55am and dd2 also has shoot at 10am .. so i'll be rushing around.
Dh is also away on business and won't be back till mid next week

littlemadam · 05/09/2006 16:27

My thumbs, poor you!! It always seems so daunting the first day back doesn't it!! Is the shoot nearby?? I've persuaded DH to go in late so he can take DS for his first day back as DD starts nursery that day too, and they are different sides of town. Good luck for the morning, sure you will be fine, and hope your DD2 enjoys the shoot and DD1 first day of course!!

Lindac, think a couple of people posted earlier and they had both cleared it with KL with no problem, hope that helps!!!

ellesmum · 05/09/2006 16:34

lindac - my 2 year old is with kids london, and i did the cm shoot in farnborough and london, i emailed kids and told them about it and the owner of kids sue emailed me back saying it was fine! hope that helps!

mythumbelinas · 05/09/2006 16:35

thanks littlemadam your dd and ds go to different schools? that must be a hassle!
Dh does normally help out and often takes dd1 to school before going to work himself.
I have asked my sis to help me tomorrow, she's going to drive me there and wait around as i don't know about parking in the area .. her kids go to the same school as mine .. always handy!

littlemadam · 05/09/2006 16:42

Have a great time, glad you've got some help... What is it for?? Is your DH away often, my DH isn't but works very long hours so it feels as if he is, thank goodness for MN

DD will probably go to the same school as DS next year but her nursery has quite definate drop off time of 9am as its attached to a school. (DSs school doesn't have a nursery) Feeling quite sad, my baby going off (even only a couple of mornings!)

strawberrymilkshake · 05/09/2006 16:48

mythumbs whats the shoot for?s

mythumbelinas · 05/09/2006 16:58

Littlemamdam, so you doing 3 trips to schools in a day .. can't wait for dd2 to start nursery next yr and go back and forth to school 3 times a day too!!
it's for M&S

strawberrymilkshake · 05/09/2006 17:30

How exciting, i love for dd to get something like that, has your dd done lots of jobs or is she quite new to it like us.

mythumbelinas · 05/09/2006 17:35

this is actually her 4th time doing M&S, but i've yet to see her stuff. She did bhs bridal again last week .. last yr this was her very first shoot!
Funny you say you'd love to get something like that .. i'd also love for my kids to do something like magazine stuff ..

strawberrymilkshake · 05/09/2006 17:38

Me to,dd has done shoot for chessington, a voiceover for cartoon and then shes doing a commercial on thursday, but never done a magazine or fashion, which i think would be so exciting.

Good luck to your lo, how old is she?

mythumbelinas · 05/09/2006 17:47

that's great strawberrymilkshake .. nice and varied stuff good luck with the commercial on thursday too
there was a commercial casting today, but my dd1 lost out again .. she's not having much luck!
She's missing her dad loads too .. crying and saying how much she misses him she's never missed him this much in the past!! hehe
they're 7 and 2.7
ok .. food is prepared .. off to cook now .. nice chatting

ellesmum · 05/09/2006 17:55

mythymbs - what agency is your 2.7 year old with? has she had alot of work? my dd is same age and with kids london

julie4travel · 05/09/2006 18:16

evening all

has anyone else with a kid 5-6 years been provisionally asked about a photoshoot in oxfordshire 19th sep? tavalava or littlemadam your boys are with b and b did you get that call?

by the way do people normally get a call just to check the dates first. I haven't heard if their will be a casting or anything. do you normally get contacted either way to say if the child is required?

I am new to this as he only had a job with scallywags last years no castings or provisional jobs or anything else

any advise appreciated

Ragamuffin · 05/09/2006 18:18

Anyone doing a photo shoot for Tesco tomorrow?? My DS will be doing this.

Agent phoned late this afternoon to check availability.......just said yes.....thinking he'd never get it......then they phoned back to confirm him!! Oh well means he misses his first day at his new school. He goes up to Junior School tomorrow, but it's the same school as his sister is at so quite familiar really. He is not in the least bit concerned about missing tomorrow!

I am slightly more concerned as he has to come out early the next day too for an audition in London.

Ragamuffin · 05/09/2006 18:21

Julie4travel.....The norm with us tends to be that they phone to check availability on jobs, all pics then submitted and the client chooses from those. These are those FAB jobs without castings! .....like the one we have tomorrow. However, you will hear nothing if they don't get it.

AllieBongo · 05/09/2006 18:22

Julie my DS is 6 and when we were doing castings we would get a call 2-3 times per week. Saying that, they have called twice this week already, but I won't take him out of school hth

mrratty · 05/09/2006 18:30

Julie our jobs usually start with that kind of call. I think the client choses a few picks, checks availability then picks the available children who look good together. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

littlemadam · 05/09/2006 18:47

Fab news Julie. DS hasn't been called, but sounds like job without casting if just checking availability first. Did she tell you what it was for, or when you might hear???
