strawberry it was for a debbie bliss knitting book. apparently it's for the follow up to one called simply baby, i forget the name now.

ellesmum · 04/09/2006 19:16

not model related but have any of you heard about the death of steve irwin the crocodile hunter from australia?

Tinkerbel5 · 04/09/2006 19:41

yes ellesmum I was quite upset when I saw it on tv this morning

dylansluckymummy well done on the shoot

dylansluckymum · 04/09/2006 20:30

it's very sad but at least he died doing what he loved. apparently it's very unusual for stingrays to attack humans, and even more unusual for it to be fatal. i feel very bad for his wife and kids though.

ellesmum · 04/09/2006 20:40

yeah i feel sorry for them too!

dylansluckymum- your dylans star of the week! congratulations

lanismum · 04/09/2006 20:54

dylansluckymum · 04/09/2006 20:55

2ManyPimms · 05/09/2006 11:39

I've said it before, I'll say it again. I have the HARDEST time keeping up with what is going on here!

Seems the CM shoot went well.

New names on the board too!

Got a call from B&B today and I am in a bit of a dilema. They want him as a "stand by" for a John Lewis shoot. He will have to take the day off school, sit around and most likely not be used. From what I can gather they need someone to fall back on if the first kid doesn't cooperate. DS (like most other children) just started back to school today and I am hesitating taking him out for the sole reason of hanging around a studio - not to mention, DD would miss school that day as well.

Oh, heck. Part of me thinks "no problem" and the other bit says "no way".

Why oh why could this not happen over the summer!

Has anyone else been a "stand-by"?

Quadrophenia · 05/09/2006 11:47

hey pimmsy, and all the lurkers who read this thread out of curiosity!!
my twins are on standyby for the Ambi Pur ad, have never done it for a photoshoot before, thats a bit wierd really, normally they use a few kids and then select the pics they want? Do what you feel is right, is it really going to be worth it etc, know what you mean about the holidays always works that way chez moi!!

mrratty · 05/09/2006 12:17

Hello,
Quad well done!
Pimms, he's still going to get paid for the job and even if they did take photos there are of course no guarentees they will be used. It is a really odd thing to do for photographic. I'm not sure what I would do!

littlemadam · 05/09/2006 12:30

Mrrattys right, we did a shoot for Junior last month and neither DS or the girl before him was used (it was editorial) We did a fab fashion shoot yesterday for them so heres hoping these will be. He did several outfits so hope so!!

Will you be wondering "what if" if you don't go? Its all experience and DS will meet more people. Is it the same team as were there on the accident? How would the school be about it...would it mean taking time off later on for jobs more difficult?

Well done Quad!

Welcome new people!! For Manchester, theres Boss or Tuesdays child. We live in Leeds tho and still went with a London agency.

cowmad · 05/09/2006 12:31

Hi not posted here before(but regular on other threads!)can anyone recommend a midlands agency or am i best to register lo with a london agency
any advice welcome!!am very near birmingham

Tinkerbel5 · 05/09/2006 12:54

Pimms what a decision, one one hand you dont want to take DS out of school, but on the other hand it might work out ok and DS stikes lucky and get pics taken and them getting used. Maybe leave it until a couple of days before then decide.

I think we all get nervous when it comes to taking kids out of school, especially at the beginning of a new school year.

DD has a shoot next week and it means taking a day out of school, Im quite nervous about it.

mythumbelinas · 05/09/2006 13:12

pimms, i understand your dilemma. dd1 had a casting last week and was asked her availability for the shoot, but it's her first day back to school .. induction day, new class, new teacher, etc, so i had to turn it down .. reluctantly. If it was another school day i would've said 'yes'!!
Good luck

Ragamuffin · 05/09/2006 13:19

2manypimms........This is such a difficult one! We have done 2 stand-by jobs before..one with each child. Both have been for TV Commercials though. I have to say though on both occassions they were during the school holidays so I didn't feel bad about it. In both cases it was a lot of waiting around and we were never used at all. On one shoot we were allowed to leave at 3pm while on the other we were there from 9 till 5pm without ever doing anything! So very long boring days for only the daily rate of pay.

I might add however that on 2 commercials that we have done there have been stand-by kids for my kids. One one of these they filmed both sets of kids and the stand-by kids footage was used in the end........so my son lost out on the TV appearance. My daughter fortunately got used on another scene. On the other job mentioned the stand-by child was used to set up all the cameras as a body double for my daughter and she then got to film a very short cut down version of the advert. This was not aired though to my knowledge, but at least the child was used and got some experience of the filming process.

I must say that with my experience, I would also be hesitant about doing a stand-by job if it meant having to have the whole day off school. One doesn't really want to use up those days for a nothing sort of job like that!

Is this really for photographic modelling? Have never heard of this being done for photographic work only TV work.

Good Luck with whatever you deceide!
