Zombie's journey with breast cancer

The thread that Val started has now been moved to General Health. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/general_health/2016081-Zombie-needs-her-limbs-holding?msgid=46439734

Please keep posting there if you wish.

As most of you know, I'm having my second mastectomy on Thursday. I will almost certainly need to have more chemotherapy.

This is my thread for those who wish to walk beside me on my journey.

Hi honeys, I'm home! Grin

One down / five to go - Docetaxel. Zero down / 18 to go - Herceptin.

Today went like clockwork. In and out of the Chemo Day Centre in just over an hour and a half. Sent home with a very large bag of drugs for every eventuality! So far, so good. Remind me of this in 4 or 5 days time when the Tax Truck runs over me.

After a healthy(ish) Tesco shop we got home about an hour ago and have been relaxing with very generous Bombay Sapphire & tonic with a large wedge of lime.

We have an early start tomorrow. Gemma, Tinkerbelle & Maisie have back to back appointments at whispers the VET.

Onwards and upwards!

Glad it all went smoothly, and so pleased that you have got your lovely friend with you.

Think I will join you in a Bombay too! Chin-chin Wine

mummylin2495 · 16/06/2014 21:46

So glad to hear from you tonight, I was thinking you would be too poorly to post for a few days. So now if I remember correctly, in three weeks time your next infusion will be due ? Hope it dosent hit you too badly. How long can your friend stay with you ?

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 17/06/2014 01:00

Yes, lovely to hear from you tonight Zombie Flowers are you sure it was the chemo that they gave youGrin you sound so upbeat!

mummylin i think friend is there for the week and coming for the other five as well.

Which is very comforting to know Flowers too (Sally?)

IamtheZombie · 17/06/2014 10:57

Morning!

Sally will be here until Monday, mummy. I'm still feeling fine but the side effects usually start on the 4th or 5th day and last for a few days. So she'll be with me for the worst of that. Bee is right, she's going to come for every cycle. And yes, next cycle is in 3 weeks. They've shifted me from Monday to Wednesday and I'll also begin Herceptin with the next Docetaxel infusion.

Bee, given the dire warnings the chemo nurse gave me I think it had to be chemo.

ZombieCats have been to the vet this morning. They were quite vocal in the car but fairly well behaved at the clinic. I gave them their breakfast as soon as we got home and I think that helped restore their good humour.

Zombie - I'm sorry I've not been on here for ages and I've only just caught up with your news.

I've 'signed up' to the following and thought that you may want to join in while you go through this next stage of your treatment? (Sorry it doesn't have anything about drinking wine or G&Ts but you can add those in yourself..!) Just a simple thing to focus on.

Please feel free to ignore

Hi Zombie, I am delurking as I wanted to say good luck.
From what I have seen on threads here, you seem to be one of the good un's and always have something interesting to say. Stay strong and have lots of Cake and Wine (or gin!)

Good morning zombie,
How are you feeling? Hope the sun is shining for you today... Smile

mummylin2495 · 18/06/2014 15:50

Hope you are still feeling ok Zombie. Hope you are taking it easy and having a blast with Sally.

IamtheZombie · 18/06/2014 21:03

Evening.

Wing, thanks for that. Every little bit helps. :)

Thanks, nick. That's very kind of you.

The sun was shy and hiding behind cloud this morning, Barbie, but emerged to provide a glorious afternoon and evening.

I am taking it easy, mummy, and Sally and I are having a great time.

Today has been an OK day. I felt a bit flatter than yesterday and my temp thought about misbehaving. After a few stern words it decided to behave. A nap this afternoon helped. Had a lovely BBQ and now just relaxing.

ZombieHugsâ„¢ to all.

Smile and Flowers

There's nothing quite like the comfort of an old friend who really knows you.

Lots of love Z, and Sally, thank you for being there.

ZingWhale · 19/06/2014 11:00

morning Zombie

I fancy a MaccyD - shall I get you some for late breakfast/brunch/lunch?Wink

how are you doing today? I can't do the TM bit, but a big ZingHug to you and Sally!Smile

IamtheZombie · 19/06/2014 12:27

I'm really starting to flag today. Despite a good night's sleep I have virtually no energy. I doubt I will get out of pjs and dressing gown today.

Mouth is also getting a bit sore.

Sally is fixing brunch. Maybe some food will give me some energy.

OP posts:
magimedi · 19/06/2014 12:36

Sorry to hear that, Zombie but glad Sally is with you. Just take it easy & don't push yourself. XXX

mummylin2495 · 19/06/2014 13:17

Sorry to see that your treatment appears to be catching up with you. Is there anything you can take for your sore mouth ? Maybe you will sleep a lot today. Hope this bad few days is soon over for you. I don't think anything will get you down for long !

Fiderer · 19/06/2014 13:32

I've only just seen this and have PM'd you. Wish I were there to get very drunk with you. Till then, much love and whiskey to you, dearest Zombie.

WingDefence · 19/06/2014 14:54

Hope you managed to eat some lunch and that it helps too.

ZingWhale · 19/06/2014 17:06

Z

sorry to hear it's starting to hit you.Sad

may I suggest to try and have some manuka honey, it's a very good source of energy, easy to digest and the antiviral/antibacterial properties might help reduce your mouth soreness.
(dismiss if it's a stupid idea. I'm only saying it because when we have mouth ulcers it seems to help)

gentle hugs.
and btw I spend as much time in pjs as possible, as standard, so you are definitely ok on that bit!Wink

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 19/06/2014 21:56

Hope you felt better after eating something.

I prescribe PJs till at least Saturday Smile

I hope you're getting some sunshine and can sit in the garden.

Zing's honey idea sounds good, Fid's whisky, not so good, probably. Wink

ZingWhale · 19/06/2014 23:15

(BBB I really fancy a tequila sunrise, right now...hot choc it is. Wink )

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 20/06/2014 09:13

Zing I will selflessly drink a tequila sunrise on your behalf tomorrow lunchtime.
Anything else I can do for you? Grin

When do you become ZingLimpet?

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 20/06/2014 13:39

Margaritas for me please ladies. Grin Martinis or G&T's also accepted.

Zombie I hope you're hanging in there and it's not too bad, and I'm glad you have some company too. After reading that thread about the horrid state of the health care "system" in America (if you can even call it a system) I am glad you are here, with our beleaguered NHS.
