Zombie's journey with breast cancer

IamtheZombie · 15/04/2014 23:24

The thread that Val started has now been moved to General Health. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/general_health/2016081-Zombie-needs-her-limbs-holding?msgid=46439734

Please keep posting there if you wish.

As most of you know, I'm having my second mastectomy on Thursday. I will almost certainly need to have more chemotherapy.

This is my thread for those who wish to walk beside me on my journey.

Yum, I love a maccy d's breakfast? What's your poison? I get the double sausage and egg mcmuffin meal with orange juice. Sometimes I splash out and get an extra hash brown too... If I've got a long day ahead of me.

IamtheZombie · 30/04/2014 23:06

sending you my care and wishes that you get past this awful disease. It's affecting my MIL right now. It's cruel.
But it does highlight how great someone like you is. Good luck for your treatment.

Hope it goes well today and enjoy that McD breakfast :)

Morning Zombie!

hope the hospital visit is productive

have a yummy breakfast Brew

IamtheZombie · 01/05/2014 07:47

Morning, Wing. No, it's in Telford. I'm in south Shropshire. Most of my care is at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital but breast surgery is done at the Princess Royal and the Breast Care Nurses are based there.

I wish McDonald's sold their regular cheeseburgers at breakfast, and their hash browns all day.

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 01/05/2014 09:22

No MaccyD talk! I'm trying to lose 2 stone!

Hope all goes smoothly Zombie.

Do I get one of them there snogs then?

I've managed to cry over spilt milk this morning. I am a numpty.

mistlethrush · 01/05/2014 09:24

I'm not keen on Shrewsbury... that's where I ended up (on a bank holiday weekend) at the end of a holiday for treatment - they didn't bother to inform my hospital or my Dr that I needed follow-up so that it took 3 months of trailing back and forward to the Dr complaining that things were still not right before anything was looked into... But that was an admin glitch I suppose - and it might have been exacerbated by the BH, who can tell. So I hope they don't get any of your paperwork muddled up Zombie!

IamtheZombie · 01/05/2014 15:12

Well, I whipped my top off and showed my burgeoning baby boobie to the rather dishy Registrar and my lovely BCN. The Registrar confirmed that Miss Rastall had worked very hard to make sure my scars match. Grin

Both Registrar and BCN are very pleased with how I'm healing. Seroma was confirmed and 100ml was drained off by BCN. We're agreed that if it comes back I'll just leave it until I see them next Friday.

I didn't want to press my BCN for information but some sort of chemo is definite. I did ask about scans and she said that was entirely dependent on the extent of the lymph node involvement.

mistle, I think ANY hospital is best avoided at weekends, especially a BH weekend. My care at Shrewsbury has been superb. I can't fault a single thing over the last 2 1/2 years.

Having said that, I also know a couple of real horror stories...

OP posts:
mistlethrush · 01/05/2014 15:25

What interests me is how the same chemo can have such totally different impacts on different people - one person might be totally floored and another might be popping in to have it and then off back to work...

Glad you're healing well and hurrah for matching scars!

YippeeKiYayMakkaPakka · 01/05/2014 15:50

I'm hardly on here these days but currently stuck indoors with chicken-poxy child. I've seen your updates on FB Zombie and wanted to wish you lots of love and strength for what comes next. Glad to hear it's all going well so far. Much love x

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 01/05/2014 21:00

Well... This is awkward... Erm, zombie?

Do you want your tongue back?

Shock
FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 01/05/2014 21:00

Yippee, you have one of my favourite names in the world.

IamtheZombie · 01/05/2014 21:25

Zombie nods being unable to speak without her tongue. Wink
