Hi

OP posts:
mythumbelinas · 21/06/2006 17:53

mumsnetmummy, good luck to your dd! I know how you must've felt, but it's looking up for your dd now .. my dd has been with KL for 8 months and not had a job and i don't know what to do, as i paid for her model book shoot for the year. To be honest i don't really like the pic. I send updates but it seems they don't use them, but what do i know!
My little dd is also with them and is doing well .. so it's tough to decide .. i wanted to keep them with the same agency!
Sorry for the moan .. stressful day!

mumsnetmummy · 21/06/2006 18:04

It is hard to know whats right and what isn't for sure. I bit the bullet and moved and it worked for me but all agencies are different it seems. I mean bruce & brown are good and get work and i never got anything. KL are only ever spoken highly of on here and now I hear you have had nothing for 8 months! Just shows you that no agency can guarantee work and whoever you go with it will be a gamble. It was only that I had work with bizzykidz before that I changed back to them or I would have most likely have stayed and been a bit more patient.

I'm sure you will get something, but if you are not happy with the photo's then call them and have a chat with whoever is looking after your lo

mumsnetmummy · 21/06/2006 18:07

i thought KL didnt charge to be with them? paying for a model book is the same thing isnt it?

mythumbelinas · 21/06/2006 18:11

thanks mumsnetmummy, it's true it is v hard to decide and you just never know!
I did call them to speak about her and they told me they're sure it will pick up for her and that she is lovely .. so i don't know what to think .. i don't want to turn into a pushy mum, so i've left it for now

mumsnetmummy · 21/06/2006 18:14

I'm sure they are right, after all its not them that chooses the children is it but the clients afterall and they have plenty of them I'm sure! They wouldnt take your lo on if they were happy with her either.

just out of interest, what did you pay for the model book for the year?

mythumbelinas · 21/06/2006 18:14

I don't think being on the model book is compulsory.

mumsnetmummy · 21/06/2006 18:16

maybe not but if you are not in it then the clients dont see your child because that is what they look at to select from, so really that means you do have to be in it indirectly

mythumbelinas · 21/06/2006 18:16

i paid half which was 85 and the other half is supposed to come out of jobs, but i think she was new, otherwise it's the full amount to pay.

mumsnetmummy · 21/06/2006 18:21

I am quite confused now, because all these agencies that people say you should apply to because they are free, isnt exactly true? £85 layout is not free in any language and although it may be choice to go in, there is no choice if that is the best way to get work for your child.

there is a website called childmodelling.net which people on here keep mentioning that has got info on all the agencies and their fees and it says on KL that they have no upfront fees. That should be changed because it is very misleading I think

mrratty · 21/06/2006 18:24

I also got the impression that Kids London was free. I guess they don't have any joining fees and you can be on there website but not in their book.

AllieBongo · 21/06/2006 18:25

my ds is with MOT, not in the model book and we get calls for castings all the time. I didn't go with IK as they never answered the phone and when I did speak to him he was a misery... their website does look nice, so hope that aren't a scam. I would look at it this way, you can pay over £100 for Pixi photos in mothercare so £100 for all the lovely pics of you LO's I've seen isn't so bad. Keep smiling chums x
Scarlettsmummy.... don't dredge up the BK thing. It's really not important

mrratty · 21/06/2006 18:27

Most clients use the websites as books are only produced once a year so become outdated pretty quickly.

Scarlettsmummy · 21/06/2006 18:28

for the record honey, i didnt, it was izzyrubi as usual and then it turns back to the people that notice it as being the ones that are 'dredging it back up!'.

I notice she is always on here and then hasnt replied to the post mrratty asked her about the contact question in? Perhaps she is still trying to think of an answer lol

She most likely privately emailed you to put a reply on here too

mumsnetmummy · 21/06/2006 18:31

mrratty > if that is the case then why charge parents £85 out of their pockets for something they dont need. Alot of people cant afford it when theyve got little ones so it would save them, especially when they can't guarantee work and like tigeryuan they havent had any in 8 months

I just think its a shame that it is always down to money and all that glitters is not always gold if you see what I mean! Nothings free in this world after all.

AllieBongo · 21/06/2006 18:32

nah, i'm at work. she has a 2 or 3 week old baby and is probably too busy or just can't be arsed

AllieBongo · 21/06/2006 18:32

mn mummy i haven't shelled out a penny for either of my 2. dd is with alphabet kids.

mumsnetmummy · 21/06/2006 18:35

thats good to hear because they say its free too. I think we should make a list of all those that are really free and not free to be taken on their books but then it costs them. Not me though, I'm too busy

mrratty · 21/06/2006 18:35

Not all of the agencies still produce model books, I don't know why they are still used as children who join in the months after the books are produced will not be included yet can still get work.

mumsnetmummy · 21/06/2006 18:36

another income for the agency it seems. But you cant blame them afterall they are a business arent they and all you are paying for is an advertising service I s'pose

AllieBongo · 21/06/2006 18:36

yeah, someone else, i can't be bothered!

mumsnetmummy · 21/06/2006 18:37

lol

AllieBongo · 21/06/2006 18:38

i've missed the land of moggeling. can't keep up with you lot

mythumbelinas · 21/06/2006 18:39

mumsnetmummy, oh, the fee isn't an upfront fee though, and my little one doesn't need to be in the model book so nothing paid there ..
when my little one was accepted by MOT they asked if i'd like her to be on their books for 150 .. so, it's just an option

cyan · 21/06/2006 18:40

i dont think that any agencies are really free as such. even the ones that are considered to be the most high prfile ie mot and KL charge some sort of fee. for under 3s the charge can be very low cost but once they get over this age bracket then the agencies will charge for model book entry and web representation, perhaps the ones that are labelled free should just be known as low cost start ups? i dont know, and to be honest o dont really give that much of shit, as we are now happy with the agency of our choice. so why am i writing this!! prob to put off the impending fact i have to finish my college h/w and get my arse into gear!! ill leave u ladies to battle it out over the trivia of start up costs/fees blah de blah de blah!!!

mythumbelinas · 21/06/2006 18:45

hahaha cyan! get on with it!!
