2ManyPimms · 16/05/2006 10:16

Mrratty - I am in Herts as well! Good luck this afternoon - I hope your LO gets the job! Keep us posted.

Allie - Thats a LOT of castings!!!! Yoips!

Anyone going for the Burberry casting on Thursday?

I wish it would just RAIN for pity sake - I hate dreary weather for no reason.

julie4travel · 16/05/2006 10:19

Morning all

izzi- Told you totally different type of kid. We are still trying to work out where he got the ginger hair from (Me blonde and my hubbie brown!) Honestly when he come out I couldn't believe it and you know how sometimes the hair changes colour well his didn't! Whereas my daughter was born brown then went to blonde! I can't work it out.

My thumbelinas- Your friend caught us up already , we had only 1 shoot in a year with Scallywags so she is doing great! It took us 6 months to get that one. congrats to her

2ManyPimms · 16/05/2006 10:31

Julie - You mentioned you were quite a distance from London. How does that work out for you with regards to castings etc...? (I ask as we are contempating a move away from the Home Counties).

AllieBongo · 16/05/2006 10:36

morning all. Turned down ba casting. ds is too busy with his footie and that's his main priority bless him! dd loves having her pic done but she doesn't seem to get any castings bless her...always the way!

julie4travel · 16/05/2006 10:42

2many pimms- I am lucky our train service is good. I just recently moved from Bedford and the Thameslink service if you get the fast train gets into London in 45 mins. I have just moved to Cambridgeshire and our local station is Huntingdon now and again that is a direct service if you get a fast train is 50 mins.

Where we live we are 5 mins away from the a1 so if I need to drive anywhere no probs. We are near a14 for other direction if i was to get any shoots over Birmningham way (you never know).

We do rely on the trains for getting there and never had a problem. In a couple of weeks we are going down for assesment yet this time as we have 2 people to see a day after each other we are going to make the most of it and overnight as its half term plus in my job I can get reductions on hotels(which is a bonus)

The negative side is that now I am Cambridgeshire instead of Bedfordshire any days off school is unauthorised where as Bedfordshire authorised it. so I suppose that is something else to consider.

Also cost wise the Bedford tourist board does cheap train tickets at 10 pounds return for a trip down so its cheaper going on the train than driving with petrol etc. I need to check with the Huntingdon one actually to see if they do the same offer.

My advise to you would be to check out the train service before deciding on a property as you don't want to have to travel miles to get to the train station before getting the train to the casting etc.

In Bedford there was so many commuters to London each day , it was worth it for the extra money they earned each day and they couldn't afford to buy a place in London so it suited them well.

What sort of region are you looking at? East Anglia ?

mythumbelinas · 16/05/2006 10:48

allie, well if footie is more important to him :) he does seem to be getting many good opportunities tho!

pimms, i love it that i'm not too far (nwlondon) so i can choose between driving or taking the tube :) i did used to think i lived far out tho as i used to live in zone 2 before but i've gotten used to it

AllieBongo · 16/05/2006 10:49

julie, i live near you in Newmarket! Have to get train from newmarket to cambridge, then another from there to london. It's too much hassle with dd in tow

tigeryuan · 16/05/2006 10:54

morning all.

allie - bless him!! wish i've some castings/jobs for me to turn down too.. heheehee!!

julie- would like to see your lo too. where is it exactly?

julie4travel · 16/05/2006 11:02

Alliebongo- Yep you aren't far from me just the other side of Cambridge. so you have the commuting like I do aswell. I saw other of the members mentioned they are from Northampton which isn't too far away. i used to go to a pub over there when I was younger on a sunday night as that was the place to go!

TigerRyuan he is Ryan under stars of teh week applications. I had to use a school photo as I can't seem to get his modelling photos off disk (blonde moment I recon) Plus I couldn't even download his picture correctly on the entry form so had to email them it. Must be having a bad day! I wouldn't say my son is drop dead gorgeous yet photogenic. I have never had a bad photo of him since he has been born its normally the others in the pictures which look scary (like me and my hubbie!)

izzyrubi · 16/05/2006 11:08

Julie >> My dd has strawberry blonde hair and we also have no clue where it came from and I'm hoping to have a ginger boy this time, I loooove ginger hair, think it's very cute!!

izzyrubi · 16/05/2006 11:13

anyone going to job in richmond on friday? v. glad dd has been booked, good excuse to go shopping! Grin

julie4travel · 16/05/2006 11:16

izzirubi- I get little grannies stopping me in tescos asking about his hair wanting to buy a rinse that colour!!!!!!!

we joke that he is the milkmans child (apart from he looks like my hubbie), my daughter looks like me. will put her under star of the week another week when i have sorted out my photos!

Bet you have to buy the p20 in the summer like I do - they can't go out of the door without it as they will burn.

tigeryuan · 16/05/2006 11:20

julie -- saw your lo pic. he is cute. i think kids with ginger hair are really cute!

issy - you're busy too. enjoy your day out on friday!

mrratty · 16/05/2006 11:22

tigeryuan - is your son still with MOT because I couldn't see him on there website.

yackertyyack · 16/05/2006 11:23

Morning all, Hope everyone is ok?? Glad to hear that its still busy!
MrRatty > Bet its for the day you had something planned!!!!
Allie > Shame about BA - it may have been filming in the carribean somewhere!!!
Well we didn't end up going to the TOMY casting yesterday as I figured it would be a longshot and I couldn't justify taking the day off work and the little fella out of nursery for just another casting - which was a shame. Never mind....hope he is as busy when I am off!!!

Thumbs > is your friends LO doing 'dressing up' clothes?? We have been 'pencilled' for next week and waiting to hear more. Saw a few scallywags kids in this months addition of Junior....along with the gorgeous Tigeryuans boy!
Chaos has decended in our house this morning as DH has gone to Paris for the football and left me a LO all alone Sad

tigeryuan · 16/05/2006 11:32

mrratty - yup. he is with MOT, but he hasn;t done the photoshoot yet. i think izzyrubi mentioned the other day that the next shoot will be in Aug/sept..
Her info. is always correct. hehee!

yackertyyack - thanks.. at last he was there. I bought 3 copies...sent one to my family and one to my hubby's!!! Smile

mythumbelinas · 16/05/2006 11:53

izzy, great news Grin
yackerty, oohh .. i hope he gets many more offers when you're off work then .. which is v soon anyway Wink
yep, it's great for the men isn't it??!! Their lives don't change as much as ours!!
I did ask if my friend's dd did partywear/dressing up and she said it wasn't .. so i guess it was for regular baby clothes then

on the subject of our LO's .. i don't think my kids take after me which is a good thing!!

2ManyPimms · 16/05/2006 11:55

Julie - we are looking at places as far away as Wiltshire, Devon and Lincolnshire. DH wants a huge house with a huge garden - something quite pricey in the St Albans area. From a commuting point of view, I'd like to be within striking distance of London. I love London and would feel bereft if we went out into the sticks! Right now I am plumping for Kent due to the grammar schools and that we could find a reasonable house for a reasonable price. My one concern is the amount of housing they want to build there in the next 10 years.

Ta for your info!!! :o

yackertyyack · 16/05/2006 12:03

Thumbs I am only jealous as I would love to be out in paris watching the football!!! Grin Officially now only have 12 days left - then you can bet it will be quiet for the little man!!
IZZY - Big Congrats to DD, aren't the jobs without castings so much better!! Hope you don't drop on the shoot!!!

julie4travel · 16/05/2006 12:08

2manypimms- Lincolshire would take a lot longer for shoots in London- Manchester would probably be easier for modelling. Although someone I know recently moved when we moved to melton and the superb house she got for her money was amazing. Obviously the more north you go the better the price. We saved at least 50-75k by just going over the border from Bedfordshire. She had a nightmare getting the school place by having to apply to a panel to get her daughter in. Our kids were born in the year 2000 so a lot more babies than some of the other years and a lot of the schools are bursting at the seems! We have been extremely lucky moving as my son has gone from a class of 29 to a class of 19 by going in a village location and I really notice the difference in his school work since we changed. He has different readng books every day and has gone up a level on his reading n about 3 weeks. I am very happy since we moved.

littlemadam · 16/05/2006 13:47

HI everyone, you all seem so busy!! Pimms, we live in Ilkley near Leeds, which is a beautiful place to live, and there is a direct train to London. Does make it a trek tho, the train is just over two hours down, so is a half day job. Luckily DS thinks the best part is the train and the underground!! I did look at Northern agencies, and they can get a lot of work, but DS has longish curly hair and we were told Yorkshire clients liked their boys to be boys!!! I will be looking out for your little one on Thurs!! We like going to London as we have friends there so are getting quite sociable!!

Yacks, we went to the Tomy casting, it was quite scary (haven't done one before) DS shown into a room with lots of people with notebooks, a big TV camera and a white cross. He has to stand on the cross and make conversation and play with a train!!! Is that what the castings are like???

Mrratty, we did a Junior at really short notice too!! Keeping my fingers crossed for you!!
