I was born in Scotland, but now live in England because of my dh's job. If you don't live where you were born, what was the reason for your move?

I live in the next town as it's classed as one by the council (IYSWIM) and I needed a bigger and better place for me and ds.

Piffle · 10/04/2006 12:54

because I was born in Hull :)

PiccadillyCircus · 10/04/2006 12:55

Jobs - DH's line of work is more based in London. Also, we both have different home towns so would have been weird to live in either if them.

DaddyCool · 10/04/2006 12:56

i've lived all over the shop. can't really class any town as my home town. i move every few years.

intergalacticwalrus · 10/04/2006 12:56

Was born in Birmingham. It was shit so I moved to Bath for Uni. I did go back to Brum for a bit, but 6 months of living next to a brothel took its toll. I came back to Bath, met DP and "settled down"

hulababy · 10/04/2006 12:58

No. Was born in Doncaster, as was DH. We met there and our families still live there. We now live a couple of towns away in Sheffield. This city was chosen for work reasons Love it though and cannot ever imagine living back in Doncaster instead.

MissChief · 10/04/2006 12:59

home "town" was a hamlet-many, many moves since then so hardly feel I've got a home county anymore. Sad, in some ways, would love to feel rooted and be near long-standing school friends as well as more recent ones..life's too fast moving and complex for that to happen as much these days though

Tutter · 10/04/2006 13:01

because I grew up in Barnsley Grin

that trumps you, piffle!

Tutter · 10/04/2006 13:01

(i know, because i also lived in hull!)

Fimbo · 10/04/2006 13:03

I find it a pita not being near friends/family, especially with 2 young children, my dd misses her grandparents & cousins dreadfully. There are tears everytime we have to go back "home".

Because I didn't fancy spending the forseeable future unemployed (not even jobs in a supermarket, etc available.). Ironically my home country now has the lowest rate of inemployment in Europe...

NatalieJane · 10/04/2006 13:08

Well I was born in Lincoln, my dad was in the army so even before I can remember we had moved towns, counties and countries away, the first place I remember is my mum and dad home town of Cheltenham, my Dad had left the army so we were there till I was about 8, then my parents split up, so my mum and sisters all moved to moved to Northampton, then on to Bedford and they haven't moved since, but I moved onto Rushden (Northants) and now on up to Accrington (Nr. Blackburn) with DH and his work.

LOL Bet you wish you hadn't asked now!!

iota · 10/04/2006 13:13

my father was in the RAF, so we moved a lot when I was a child.

So no I don't live where I was born and nor does my db. My mother however, now lives in the village where she was born. Smile

noddyholder · 10/04/2006 13:14

I was born in Northern Ireland and was planning my escape at about age 10!I never really liked it there although beautiful for a holiday.Luckily my mum remarried and we moved to England when I was 14 which saved me running away!

Screwballmuppet · 10/04/2006 13:17

pootlepod · 10/04/2006 13:27

Parents moved when I was about 7 from the town I was born. I too have lived in a number of places so would not consider where I was born as my home town. Home town is where I am at the moment.

Wouldn't live in the town where my parents lived- as much as I love them.

twokids · 10/04/2006 13:33

lived in bookham then dorking. met dh when he was working in dorking so moved to brighton to be with him(all very romantic)

LillyPink · 10/04/2006 13:36

I live nearby to my hometown. Would love to move back there but prices are way too expensive.
