Ciao a tutti, still in Milan (longest layover without actually taking up residence here!) so waving frantically at those of you qui vicino.

Come si dice 'my foot is bright blue because someone stood on it ieri and turned it into a swollen bloody mess that doesn't fit in my boots, so am protecting it with vetwrap' per favore? Grin.

Apparently venti sei/sette gradi in Catania oggi!

Povera Alameda! Can you still walk?

Ti augero Milan!

(at least it is azzurri! forza!)

Alameda · 27/10/2012 14:19

Ciao! Yes, think of me as an elderly zia who loves to complain about illness and injury! It kills when I walk actually but am just sitting around for now.

What's all this about floods in Liguria, severe maltempo, evacuations? Lost without subtitles!

Rosa · 27/10/2012 21:03

Heavy rain and flooding . We had strong venti al mare giving aqua alta and it was high. Domani the same. Sorry about your piede hope it gets meglio soon.

Annunziata · 27/10/2012 21:12

Sta mattina vento forte - sono in Venezia , ache oggi the sirene hanno suonato aqua alta ancora on its way. Verso Liguria mi sa it was worse with flooding .....oggi amici a pranzo Roast beef , yorkshie puddings e un buon valpoliccella!!!!

Alameda · 28/10/2012 08:14

hope the roast beef keeps the weather out! I am looking at the sea, (at my table for one on my holiday for one) wondering what monsters to eat from it later today Confused

OP posts:
Annunziata · 28/10/2012 09:22

Alameda that sounds absolutely wonderful! Here am I watching the rain! (although thats not half as scary as aqua alta eek)

We are having roast beef too tonight!

DD2 solo avi 14 anni, the others were at parties/ clubbing :)

Alameda · 28/10/2012 09:45

ah mia figlia #tre ha 13 anni, quite glad she is show jumping in England today and not sulking here with me - she would love this hotel though, it must have been very posh once. I am not too sure about the slightly yellow tap water yet!

Ho bisogno di scrivere il mio libro somewhere today, is 23 gradi no rain forecast so I will find somewhere to sit and build an appetite for lunch.

OP posts:
Francagoestohollywood · 28/10/2012 10:48

Oh wow Alameda, how absolutely lovely! And glad the foot is not as bad as yesterday. I saw a pic taken yesterday on the beach nr Palermo, people still in their swimming costumes!
Oggi fa freddo qui, Rosa come va l'acqua?

Lol at Annunziata's ds dressed like mezzo cavallo Grin

I have 14 friends for lunch today (14 between adults and children, plus us), we are doing brunch.

Alameda · 28/10/2012 10:58

Yes people (well one mad man) in the sea qui (Ortigia) this morning.

Franca can we start a little business, some sort of bespoke holiday thing? And can it be my job to traipse round Sicily for some reason? Annunziata can translate everything into sishhhilianuuu, what do we think?

OP posts:
Francagoestohollywood · 28/10/2012 11:05

That'd be great! Taylor made holidays in Sicily, perhaps? For wealthy Londoners? Will they abandon the security of villas with swimming pool in Marbella for something more adventurous and unpredictable? It'd be great!!!!

Alameda · 28/10/2012 11:31

I was offered a job taking tourists through villages in the Taurus mountains once, no hotels, just exploiting paying for villagers' hospitality but they ended up doing something on small yachts in the med instead.

Think it would be nice to get paid for watching the siciliani, although they spend more time staring at me Confused

Alameda · 28/10/2012 13:08

SEA URCHINS for lunch

I wish myself all the luck in the world.

OP posts:
Annunziata · 28/10/2012 14:33

Alora, ti mangia the urchins?! Ti piache? Grin

I think I could only possibly translate from an office in Taormina Wink I sneak onto thinksicily.com when I am bored. Wow the houses are beddu!

Alameda · 28/10/2012 14:46

oh the poor waiter! 'ma signora, bedda signora, ricci di mare e (?) buONISSSSSSimo' as i struggled through Grin mangiato (is that a past tense?) several forkfuls, almost half the portion, non c'e male actually but, as I tried to reassure the poor waiter, is simply uno nuovo gusto. He was extremely anxious that I should like them.

I didn't not like them, to be honest I was more worried about there being onions AND garlic in same dish but am comforted to know this is not a common thing. I always knew it was wrong, surely one or the other - what's your thinking on this?

Need a lie down now to recover from the shock of what I have eaten but look how sunny it is out there!

OP posts:
Alameda · 28/10/2012 14:51

office in taormina sounds great - ah imagine, but you couldn't manage somewhere a little cheaper to start with?

OP posts:
Alameda · 28/10/2012 14:56

why did I look at thinksicily.com?

want to do this so so so so much now

OP posts:
Annunziata · 28/10/2012 20:55

Meh, I wouldn't be surprised if there were onions and garlic but I tend to use either or myself :) Brava for trying them though!!!

Sono guiliso di sole, chi'e scuru pioggia! Enjoy!

Rosa · 28/10/2012 21:28

Gelosia on the view and Taormina but pass on the urchins grazie .... Good the piede is meglio. Qui fuori e 5 gradi ...sta mattina era 17. Vento e pioggia.. Domani devo cercare scarves and hats se continua cosa...ancira roba x dd 1 da perdere.

Annunziata · 28/10/2012 21:41

Che caldo :(

Si, sunni sempri perdriennu tutti guanti, hats, scarves, boh. Una giorna li cusi supra soi manu!

Alameda · 28/10/2012 21:50

5! Rather you. Just checked meteo locale and è 18 gradi ora, adesso, and I got them to bring me an extra duvet because it seemed cold Blush

I love Holiday For One even though as a chatterbox it is strange not having anyone to talk to, there was an American woman at a table near mine but she was complaining so much about cigarette smoke (prob mostly mine) and the calamari (she can't eat anything that isn't fried, she said?) that I pretended to be tedesco and distanced myself.

OP posts:
Annunziata · 28/10/2012 22:02

Gahh l'mericanu sounds annoying! Glad you are having a good time- parri assai sicilianu?!

Hope everyone's day and lunches went well! Bonasira!!

Francagoestohollywood · 28/10/2012 22:07

Lol at pretending to be tedesco!!

Well done for trying the urchins. I like spaghetti with ricci. I also like garlic and cipolla, but I like 99% of food.

Qui fa freddissimo, ho tirato fuori le giacche pesanti.
