Annunziata · 20/10/2012 10:51

Eek, 3000 parole? Bona fortuna!

Mi piace iri al aeropuerto it's always exciting!

Francagoestohollywood · 20/10/2012 11:10

Ah Annunziata, glad they are safe home!

Busy, but it's nice to catch up.

Lafata, what is your essay on?

alexpolismum · 20/10/2012 12:35

Buona sera a tutti!

Franca May I just ask you a question? I remember that when I was in Italy people said "la mia madre", but I notice that you just say "mia madre". Is this a regional thing? (I was in Tuscany)

Francagoestohollywood · 20/10/2012 14:12

Alexpolis yes, it is a regional thing, in Tuscany they will say "la mi' madre" or "la mi' mamma"

In general, it usually is:
Vado al mare con mia madre or

vado al mare con la mia mamma (more colloquiale)

Have a lovely weekend!

alexpolismum · 20/10/2012 15:43

Grazie, Franca!

I am a little unclear on some of the grammar points like that, although I usually have no trouble with general communication!

LaFataTurchina · 20/10/2012 18:11

Franca - I'm comparing some aspects of Swedish and English education.
It's interesting enough, but I'm too excited about my impending house move/new job to focus really.

Alexpolis - I do that usually, but with first names!
Proper Italian would be something like - 'Teresa e Sara sono andate al cinema' but in my Northern rural bit of Italy we'd probably say 'La Teresa e la Sara sono andate al cinema'.

alexpolismum · 20/10/2012 20:16

FataTurchina that structure sounds so familiar to me, I am sure I heard people saying it. La Chiara, la Giovanna... But not Il Gino, il Marco, etc. Only with women's names. Perhaps I just had a high percentage of dialect-users in my social circle!

Francagoestohollywood · 20/10/2012 23:13

It's typical of Northern Italy. If you ever read the sublime "lessico famigliare" written by Natalia Ginzburg in 1960, she too uses la paola, il Marrio etc.

Lafata your essay sounds v. Interesting.

Alameda · 21/10/2012 12:11

that's one of my things to revise (or learn for first time in my case) and according to my tutor it is correct to do that when talking about anyone (who presumably isn't there) unless the following two exceptions both apply: you are related to them and there's only one of them? Confused. How serious is it to omit or use the wrong possessivo thing?

Annunziata · 21/10/2012 18:59

Comu interissanti, davanti io nun avia sentatu 'il Gino, il Marco.'

Sooo lucky! I am glad you got someone to go with you! I wonder if the olives are done yet, caponata is really fresh this time of year, the pears and the chestnuts. Oh I want to go!

Io svigghiaru, the DC essenu GGRRRRRR. They all have to sit at the table to do their homework/studying. DS (22) keeps producing the stupid mask and scaring DD (19). She keeps complaining that 'they are like, breathing so loud and IT'S PUTTING ME OFF'. DS2 (17) is farting. DS3 is deliberately not studying. DS4 is encouraging them. DD2 is weeping over maths. Oh yes, I will be awake.

(Do you want to take any of them with you? If not me? Have them ALL!)

Alameda · 21/10/2012 19:45

Mmmmm caponata, mi piace molto. Haha, no grazie, would rather take you - am going to get away from that sort of thing!

Francagoestohollywood · 21/10/2012 19:49

Well, Alameda, often it is still quite mild in Sicily at the beg of Novemeber, so keep your fingers crossed!
This weekend the weather has been gorgeous even in Milan, there must have been at least 22 degrees and a lovely sunshine.

I hope you manage to summon up some energy to pack, you will feel better once you are in Sicily and in front of a nice granita al caffé!

Ciao e buona settimana a tutte

Annunziata · 21/10/2012 19:52

:)

It will be so amazing!

Annunziata · 21/10/2012 20:05

alexpolismum · 22/10/2012 08:44

Buongiorno a tutti!

Oggi e' venuto l'autunno, e piove.

Alameda · 22/10/2012 12:50

Buongiorno alex, buongiorno a tutti. È buio and come si dice 'foggy'? Non mi sento molto bene as usual ma mainlining berocca and coffee. Questa casa looks like the setting for a documentary about what happens to mad people when they are left to fend for themselves in the wilds of The Community.

OP posts:
Francagoestohollywood · 22/10/2012 13:17
