Ciao a tutti! Grazzi Alameda.

Oggi mia figghicedda uscira con un ragazzo! Madonna! The DSes no sunnu contenti, haha. DS1 asked me if I wanted him to go sit behind them in the cinema! Non so che lui fare on his first dates!

LaFataTurchina · 29/09/2012 11:33

Cuanti (quanti??) anni ha tua figlia Annunziata?

I wouldn't worry, my first date with a boy (age 16) we were too shy too talk all through the movie, and all through pizza afterwards. We dated for a month, only kissed about twice and purposely sat on different sides of the classroom in most lessons.

Annunziata · 29/09/2012 11:42

DD2 avi quattordici, lafata. Era molto vistituni, bless her. I'm dropping her off now... eeek! In bocca al lupo!

I wonder if she's mentioned her four brothers? Grin

Alameda · 01/10/2012 08:55

Ciao, noi abbiamo trascorso un fine settimana molto rilassante. Però io oggi ho il torcicollo.

Alameda · 01/10/2012 12:26

ouch, me too actually - neck/shoulder, hazard of riding slightly strong horse in my case.

Very pleased I managed that without the dictionary, except I thought noi abbiamo was 'we will have' despite revising it. Why am I so thick? :(

Don't worry about the verbs, they are difficult Grin

You should see ds (10) revising them for school, taking the passato remoto for a congiuntivo and so on Grin

Alameda · 01/10/2012 13:27

ah it is not only me then, phew, although it is frustrating how often I 'learn' and forget, and it was the main thing to learn for class - the regular are ire ere verbs and the main irregular root verbs but is soul destroying to keep forgetting them each time!

hopefully am rounding up some spare italian students from my friends' english school to do regular language exchanges - they can enjoy my english conversation and repay me with some italian

hope your neck is better soon!

Francagoestohollywood · 01/10/2012 13:32

Verbs tenses etc from another language are one of those things that you acquire by actually using them all the time, imo.

English phrasal verbs for instance: they were a nightmare for me BEFORE I moved to the UK. 8 yrs in the UK have sort of helped Grin

Annunziata · 01/10/2012 14:44

Hope everyone's neck and shoulders improve soon! I really struggle with verbs too, my family have a strange tendency to use the English verbs but Italian/ Sicilian nouns.

Haju dui figgia e quattru figgiu.

Alameda · 01/10/2012 14:45

8 years! But even though you could speak English fairly well before? it's a long road Confused

It's shocking though how possible it is to resist learning, I smile at the memory of a friend asking 'what's focaccia?' in a cafe seven years after moving to (I still don't know if they are in Liguria or Tuscany, somewhere between) Italy. It's been 9 years now and I visited her a couple of weeks ago and she still doesn't speak any Italian, on the plus side her husband has progressed to being able to order red AND white wine by the bottle instead of getting something the size and colour (and sort of taste) of a urine sample when asking for large carafe of red wine.

I have a strange tendency to cross post with you annunziata! Ciao, va bene?

OP posts:
Annunziata · 01/10/2012 14:47

Oh wait- miei fratelli? Dui sorelli e cincu fratelli.

Annunziata · 01/10/2012 14:48

argh! Ciao! Bonu, e tu?

Alameda · 01/10/2012 14:50

Do I mean come va or can I just say what I like?

I need to do an actual talk about myself tomorrow that isn't all ho tre figli, tutte femminile and un nipotino (si I am even older than I look) etc or my fantasy life with il commissario Montalbano

OP posts:
Francagoestohollywood · 01/10/2012 14:51

Well no, it didn't take me 8 yrs to learn phrasal verbs, but it is a work in progress.
Yes, I was convinced I spoke fairly good English when I moved to England, and had passed the Proficiency Test etc, but once I moved, I realized that I still had a long way to go. And still after all these yrs, after having read 100000000000 books in English, after having watched 100000000000000 TV programs...it is not as good as I would like it to be Grin

Anyways, wow Annunziata quanti figli!!! Smile Congratulations! Brava!

Alameda · 01/10/2012 14:52

cincu? Cinque? Five? My mum would be Envy she wanted six.
